Jeremy Eubank

The Tigers finished out the week at home, hosting state finalist from last year Eastern Mennonite in the much anticipated VIC matchup.

The Tigers were able to open up the scoring for both teams in the 12th minute with an unassisted goal by junior Caleb Gibbons (Toledo, OH) to take a 1-0 lead. Gibbons was able to add a his second of three goals in the 31st minute of the first half to take a 2-0 lead. Eastern Mennonite was quick to strike back in the 32nd minute to make it 2-1 Tigers. However, Eastern Mennonite was unable to stop the Tiger offense as Raines Wall (Chatham, VA) assisted on Gibbons’ third goal right before the half to take a 3-1 at the break.

“To come out in the first half and put three goals against a state finalist from last year shows that we wanted to make a statement from the opening whistle,” stated head coach Jeremy Eubank. “We wanted to create 80 minutes of havoc by pressuring high and using our depth, which was the case tonight.”

In the second half, the Tigers were able to add their fourth and final goal in the 56th minute as Wall finished off the pass from Gibbons to make it 4-1. Right away, Eastern Mennonite was able to respond in the 57th minute as they got a quick goal to make it 4-2. Nevertheless, the high pressure strategy and playing as unit got the Tigers the win and moves them to 3-0 on the season. Tigers have a game week at Holy Cross on Tuesday (game time 4:30) then on Friday and Saturday the Tigers will be hosting their first annual soccer tournament with games starting at 3 PM on Friday and Saturday’s games starting at 9 AM.

“To my knowledge, this is the first time in Hargrave soccer history that we have beaten Eastern Mennonite. I am really proud of our guys and the overall team effort that was given is a true testament to where we are as a program currently,” states coach Eubank.
