Varsity Soccer Defeats Holy Cross for a record of 4-0

Jeremy Eubank

The Tigers traveled to Lynchburg on Tuesday to take on the Gaels of Holy Cross in a VIC clash. Opening the scoring early, the Tigers were able to jump on the Gaels and keep on the pedal as they went onto to win 10-2.

In the 11th minute,  Caleb Gibbons (Toledo, OH) put away a pass from Luke DeWitt (Chantilly, VA) to make the score 1-0. In the 13th minute, Youssef Abouzied (Cairo, Egypt) was able to finish off a great through ball from Gibbons to score his first of four goals (scored in the 18th, 21st, and 33rd minute of the game) with assist(s) from Chad Demarest ( Naples, FL) and Dewitt (3 total assists) to take a 5-2 lead going into the break.

“We were able to capitalize on the opportunities presented early in the game, which allowed for us to use our depth in numbers to force Holy Cross to play our way,” stated head coach Jeremy Eubank.

The second half was much of the same story for the Tigers. Caleb Gibbons scored in the 43rd and 56th minute with Raines Wall (Chatham, VA) scoring in the 52nd minute and assisting on one of Gibbons’ goal to make it 8-2 Tigers with 20 minutes left to play. Kayode Osunkoya (Jacksonville, NC) gave a great ball to Rakan Alshinibr (Saudi Arabia) that he volleyed home in the 58th minute. In the 75th minute, the Tigers were able to add their 10th goal of the game as Joahcin Taneus (Brighton, Great Britain) gave a great cut back ball to Charles Massina (Togo) to score his first varsity goal and to close the game out for the Tigers.

“By stretching the game, it allowed us to control the ball a little more and work on things that we needed to clean up from the first half,” stated Eubank on the second half performance.

The Tigers will return to action on Friday as they host the 1st Annual Hargrave Classic Friday and Saturday. The Tigers will play at 5 PM on Friday and at 11 AM and 4 PM on Saturday. Other games will be at 3 PM on Friday and at 9 AM and 2 PM on Saturday.
