The Hargrave Tigers hit Simpson Parade Field on Saturday afternoon in the pouring rain to take on local squad, Southside Soccer Club. After notching the match’s first goal, the Tigers fell 4-1, moving to 0-4-1 overall on the season.

Saturday’s game was intended to be part of the annual Hargrave Soccer Classic but due to the elements and unforeseen circumstances the event became a single game but the Tigers made the most of it! With a quick counter play, Patrick Fowlkes played a perfect through ball to a cutting Teni Olufore and a strong right boot from Olufore found the back of the net.

Hargrave led most of the first half but Southside Soccer Club scored the equalizer with just over 2:00 to go in the half. Southside Soccer Club came out with great energy in the second half, as they scored three more goals in the final stanza to take the 4-1 victory.

Following the game, Head Coach Chandler Pribble shared the following thoughts, “We really battled today against the elements and against our opponent. We came out with great energy and focus as the aggressors early in the match but unfortunately we weren’t able to sustain it for a full 80 minutes. With only two seniors on this group, a match like today will help us continue to build with our young core and I’m looking forward to getting better this week in practice!”

Hargrave heads to Richmond, Virginia on Saturday September 17th to participate in the Steward Soccer Invitational. Their first match is against host, Steward, at 10:30 AM and their second match, based on results, is slated for 1:30 PM.
