Varsity Soccer Goes into Double Overtime

Jeremy Eubank

The Tigers travelled to Charlottesville, VA  on Thursday evening to take on Covenant School in VIC action. Starting out strong early, the Tigers were able to capture the lead. However, Covenant School was able to even-up the game with two goals in the second half to force double overtime where the teams would finish in a tie of 2-2 for the game.

Opening the scoring for the Tigers in the 9th minute was Caleb Gibbons (Toldeo, OH) off of a good pass from Raines Wall (Chatham, VA) to make it 1-0 Tigers. In the 39th minute, Wall was able to find Gibbons again to make it 2-0 at the break. “We came out and really focused on going at their backline,” stated head coach Jeremy Eubank. “I felt like we had the advantage last year (won 6-3 at home against Covenant), and it showed early on that the they took us for granted like last year.”

In the second half, the Tigers fought hard to try and maintain the lead with numerous chances created just off the mark. Covenant School was able to add two second-half goals to make it 2-2 going into overtime. “Losing a man due to yellow cards is never ideal, however, I am very proud of our boys in how they fought through tired legs and a two hour bus ride to earn a very good result tonight against a quality opponent,” stated Eubank.

The Tigers return to action on Friday, September 16 at 4:30 at home against New Covenant School out of Lynchburg.
