Varsity Soccer Shuts Out Roanoke Valley Christian

Jeremy Eubank

The Tigers returned to the pitch on Monday to host Roanoke Valley Christian in a non-conference match-up. From start to finish, the Tigers were able to easily roll to victory 8-0.

Raines Wall (Chatham, VA) opened the scoring in the 3rd minute as he finished a through ball from Youssef Abouzied (Egypt) for the 1-0 lead. In the 13th minute Abouzied was able to find the back of the net from a great pass from Caleb Gibbons (Toledo, OH- collected three assists on the evening) to make it 2-0. Wall was able to collect two more goals before the half to record a first half hat trick in the 24th and 27th minute off an assist from Gibbons to make it 4-0 in favor of the Tigers. Before the break, Abouzied was able to score in the 40th minute to make it 5-0 at the midway point.

“Throughout the entire first half the way we were able to posses the ball and connect passes was good to see after having four straights of practice without a game,” stated head coach Jeremy Eubank. “The time off allowed for us to get healthy and  work on some of the fundamental parts of the game that needed to be refined at this point of the season.”

In the second half, it was same story as Abouzied collected his third goal in the 45th minute to make it 6-0 off a split assist from Wall and Ebrahim Al-Aghbari (Yemen). To close out the game, Gibbons was able to find the back of the net three minutes later (48th minute) off an assist from Rakan Alshinibr (Saudi Arabia) to make it 7-0 and Roanoke Valley Christian scored in their own goal to make it 8-0 for the Tigers.

“From start to finish this was the most complete game we have played all season,” stated Eubank. “At this point of the season, to see the possession rate we had for the game, chances created, defensively collecting our 5th shutout of the season, and only allowing three shots is a testament to our team in doing what they needed to do.”

The Tigers return to action on Tuesday at Miller School out of Albermarle at 4:30 in a VIC conference clash. With the win it brings the Tigers record to 9-1-1 on the season and 3-0-1 on the season.
