Varsity Soccer Ties New Covenant

The Hargrave Military Academy Soccer Team traveled to Lynchburg, VA on Monday after their victorious tournament debut with confidence and a sense of togetherness as a team.

New Covenant School came out early and dominated the middle of the field, possession, and finished three quick goals within 20 minutes of the first half. However, the Tigers did not lose confidence or hang their heads, and by halftime, the score was 3-1 after a goal from Tyler Fallen.
Tyler would have two more goals on the day for a hat trick and after the halftime talk and break, the Tigers came out and fought back into the game. Solid and disciplined in the back, the whole back line of Kim, Donaldson, and Lawson played extremely well beginning the attack at their feet and distributing the ball as necessary. Offensively, the Tigers played loose and in addition to Tyler Fallen’s hat trick, Nick Summers put away a goal too.
As the Tigers were up 4-3 in the last minute of the game, a foul was called and a quick restart resulted in New Covenant creating another opportunity to capitalize. The Griffins put a last goal in the back of the net with 1 minute left to ensure a tied final score of 4-4.
Student-athletes that played well are as follows:
  • Henry Averett returned to the net after his wrist injury on Friday with a total of 15 saves.
  • Daniel Kim in the outside markingback position was an absolute wall all game.
  • Raines Wall created opportunities or his fellow striker, Tyler Fallen with two assists.
  • Tslemeg Ganbold with his positional flexibility to outside midfielder and playing hard through the transition.
