HMA – 1 Covenant – 5
The Hargrave soccer team were first to score in the match against Covenant. Dapo Omisore, a recent arrival to the team, was able to chase down a chipped ball from Forrest Brown in the 6th minute of action and put the ball in the back of the net to give us the 1-0 lead. Covenant tied it up and went ahead by one goal for the majority of the 1st half. Unfortunately, our defense let up a bit mentally and physically in the closing minutes of the first half and allowed two breakaways resulting in goals and a halftime score of 4-1.
The second half was very evenly matched and a lot of battles were won by Hargrave’s aggressive play in the middle of the field and improved ball distribution. Kip Gore, Forrest Brown, Nicholas Fallen, Raad Al-shinibr, Dapo Omisore, and Rhys Emlet all had shots on the goal. Jay Southard did an outstanding job as Hargrave’s keeper. In the first half he tallied 13 saves and had 18 in all at the end of the game. Quin Chang-Darnell made an impact both in the defense as well as on the offense. An improved attitude and confidence was felt for the majority of this game and we are hoping that it continues throughout the remainder of the season.
