Hargrave 8 – Dan River 1
The Hargrave Varsity Soccer Team scored six first half goals on their way to an 8-1 win over Dan River High School on Wednesday.
The Tigers opened up the first half with three goals in less than 15 minutes to immediately take control of the contest. Junior Paul Spakauskas recorded his first of three goals on the day nearly five minutes after the kick-off. Three minutes later Senior Philippe Armand added the Tiger’s second of the game. Five minutes after the Armand goal Midfielder Austin Newman would add the Tiger’s third.
The Tigers continued their offensive pressure throughout the first half of play, and would soon add three more goals in a 12 minute span to end the first half. In the 22nd minute of play Junior Tony Cain added the Tiger’s fourth of the match. Senior Captain Cody Cameron also got involved in the scoring and added the Tiger’s fifth of the match three minutes later. In the 33rd minute of play Armand would add his second goal of the game to put the Tigers up 6-0. Hargrave held their opponent to no shots in the first half of play.
As the second half began the Tigers took a more relaxed approach towards the game. Despite great defensive play throughout the game from the Tiger’s defense the Wildcats were able to pull one back 15 minutes into the second half off a free-kick opportunity. Although, two minutes later the Tigers would add their seventh of the game with Spakauskas’ second of the match. Spakauskas would complete his hat-trick in the 66th minute of play to end the scoring at 8-1.
