Varsity Soccer vs. Fishburne

Hargrave 9 – Fishburne 0

Senior Forward Nick Barr continued superb play on Thursday as he led all scorers with two goals and two assists as Hargrave remained perfect on the early season with a 9-0 win over Fishburne Military School.

Senior Captain Josh Splinter opened the scoring for the Tigers five minutes in with perfect positioning on the back post to finish off a Tony Cain cross to tally his first goal of the season. The Cain cross found Barr who touched the ball on to Splinter for the open go ahead goal. Eleven minutes later junior Captain Scott Dinius found the back of the net with a strike from nearly 20 yards out also adding his first goal of the season. Less than four minutes later senior forward Tumi Demuren would capitalize on the first of his back to back goals. The Demuren goal would be set up by precise one-two touch passing from Splinter and Barr down the right flank. Barr found sufficient time to send in a perfect ball to the back post that found Demuren for the 3-0 advantage. Seven minutes later Demuren would add is second by much of the same manner, though, this time set-up by junior forward Aaron Snell and right wing Austin Koeneman with a Snell cross from deep within the right flank of the Fishburne defense. Sophomore Kenny Mattimore would add his first of the season in the 33rd minute of play off of a Alec Field corner. The Mattimore goal would finish the half with a Tiger 5-0 advantage.

Once again the 5th minute of play proved to start off the scoring for the Tigers as Barr gave the Tigers their sixth goal of the afternoon from yet another Cain cross from the left flank. Cain was able to break down the Fishburne defense, enter the penalty area, and then slide a precise ball along the ground to Barr who was waiting wide open in front of the goal mouth for the put away. Barr would add is second on the day not seven minutes later with a well-placed header from a Mattimore cross deep within the left flank. Cain set-up the play, adding his third assist on the afternoon, with a through ball to Mattimore down the left wing. Mattimore quickly hit the cross to find Barr who powered the header home to give the Tigers the 7-0 lead, and finish off his two goal, two assist performance. With 15 minutes remaining forward Aaron Snell would add onto his earlier assist with two goals of his own to finish off the scoring for the Tigers. Snell’s first came in the 65th minute of play as he found room in a congested penalty area, and burried a perfectly hit ball along the ground into the corner netting. Snell would add is second of the day finishing off another Alec Field corner with four minutes to play to complete his two goal, one assist afternoon.

With the win the Tigers move to 2-0 overall, 2-0 in conference play on the still yet early season. The Tigers will return to action on Monday, March 19 as they travel to take on Timberlake Christian.
