Varsity Soccer vs. Galileo

Hargrave 4 – Galileo 0

Senior Captain Nick Barr scored all four goals for Hargrave as the Tigers secured the win over the Falcons of Galileo High School to extend their unbeaten record to 5-0, and remain unscored upon to begin the season.

Barr wasted no time for the Tigers as he scored his first two goals within six minutes of the opening whistle. Barr’s first came four minutes in from an Austin Koeneman cross on the right flank, while his second came less than two minutes later on a follow-up from a strike from junior Captain Scott Dinius. Although, with the two early goals, and 12 shots to end the half the Tigers were unable to find the back of net again despite several open opportunities in front of the Falcon goal. The Tigers gave up four first half shots to their opponent, and forcing goalkeeper Nathan Bloom into two saves.

Throughout the second half the Tigers once again had their way on the offensive end of the ball with several good scoring opportunities, but, once again, were unable to finish off the open opportunities. Although, the Tigers would again find the net with Barr’s third on the day in the 64th minute of play from another Dinius assist, and Barr’s fourth coming in the 76th minute of play. The fourth goal for the Tigers would be their best set-up opportunity beginning with a defensively won ball from junior Aaron Snell. Snell then sent a pass down the right flank to sophomore forward Dong Eun who was then able to find Barr open at the top of the 18 yard box. Barr collected the Eun pass with a good first-touch to set himself up for the shot, and barried home his fourth goal of the match with a well placed shot past the Falcon goalkeeper.

The Tiger defensive effort, along with two more saves from Bloom in the second half proved to be enough to give the Tigers their fifth consecutive shut-out. Barr’s four goal output was enough for the Tigers to secure the victory offensively, but the Tigers 28 shot output left numerous created opportunities uncapitalized as they missed several point blank chances and gave up 11 saves to the Falcon goalkeeper.

The Tigers will return to action on Thursday as they take on conference foe North Cross who will prove to be a competitive and tough opponent for the Tigers in their last game before the break. With a win the Tigers will currently retain first place in the conference. Game time is set for 4:30.
