Summary

Hargrave 2 – LCA 2 in OT

Junior midfielder Mike Badolato scored twice for Hargrave on which both occasions gave the Tigers what could have been the game winning goal. Although, the Bulldogs of Liberty Christian were able to draw even as they responded to both of the Badolato tallies including the game tying goal with 18 seconds remaining in the second overtime period.

Once again the matchup between the Bulldogs and the Tigers proved to be a physical evenly fought match; both sides expected nothing less then their opponent’s best, and both sides faced off against exactly that. It almost seemed that there was nothing more fitting than to see the two sides drawn even at the final whistle. Although, in this draw the Tigers were left shocked as the Bulldogs were able to find the equalizer on the last play of the match to steal a valuable win away from the homeside.

The first half of play ended the same as their earlier meeting this week on Monday at an even draw 0-0, a game in which the Bulldogs walked away victorious 1-0. During the course of the first half both sides saw good scoring opportunities, but both sides ended the half with nothing to claim. Once again goalkeeper Nathan Bloom was tested for the Tigers as he had to make three diving saves as the first half of play wound down. Bloom was up to the test and secured the first half for his Tigers.

The first goal of the match came with just less than ten minutes remaining in the game as Badolato crashed the goal, and got on the end of a Tony Cain corner to give the Tigers the lead. Although, the Tiger’s lead was short lived when less than a minute later LCA equalized as forward Abass Ayembillah scored for the Bulldogs with a blistering shot from just inside the box.

What was physical in the first half grew into the second, as both team’s competitive spirit and drive to win escalated. The play during the course of the match was not dirty; it was just simply physical, and that physicality came into play as both teams shared a combined 24 fouls in the match, two of which led to both the overtime goals for both sides. As the ovetime period began the physical play between the two sides continued. Neither side wanted to hold back; both wanted to win. With just over a minute left in the first overtime period the Tigers struck on a free kick taken by Captain Nate Anglin just inside the Bulldog’s half. Badolato was able to get on the end of it as the LCA goalkeeper could not gain possession of the flighted ball. Badolato gave the Tigers what was thought to have been the game winner. Although, there was still one more overtime to go, and once again the Bulldogs were able to draw even. With a foul deep in the Tigers half Ayembillah stepped up for the hit, and put a hard driven shot towards the upper left corner of the goal. Tigers goalkeeper Nathan Bloom was able to get a hand on the shot, but the save collided with the post and found itself loose at the goal-line. The Bulldog’s John Morris was there to follow-up the shot, and tapped in the tying goal with 18 seconds remaining on the clock.
