Varsity Soccer vs. North Cross School

The Hargrave Tigers (5-10-1, 3-3) were held scoreless for the third time this season as they dropped a non-conference match-up to North Cross (9-1-3) on Friday, 2-0.

North Cross’ Jonathan Mitchell tallied the go-ahead goal for the Raiders with just under 22 minutes to play at the 21:54 mark of the first half. The Raider’s Joey Curran grabbed the helper on the play as he collected a loose ball down the left side and sent in a crossed ball to the back post. Mitchell was found wide open for the header and the easy put away for the 1-0 advantage.

Despite trailing 1-0 at the half the Tigers approached the second half with renewed confidence. Though, a questionable second half penalty awarded to the home side at the 56:38 mark would leave the Tigers at the disadvantage, 2-0.

The Tiger’s Mike Dalpini and Austin Koeneman were able to create chances late, but Raider’s goalkeeper Yezid Gracia secured both saves.

The match was largely a defensive battle as neither team couldn’t create many opportunities. North Cross finished the match with eight total shots, and with three shots on goal, but made good on two of those opportunities which included the penalty kick. Hargrave finished the game with five total shots, three of which came on frame.
