Varsity Soccer vs. North Cross School

The Hargrave Varsity Soccer Team found themselves on the short end of an eight goal game with North Cross on Thursday, 2-6.

North Cross opened the scoring early less than two minutes into the game, and then again two minutes later to pull in front of the Tigers 0-2.

Although, the Tigers did not give-in to the early goals from North Cross, and soon added their first of the game to make 1-2 only 12 minutes into the game. The goal was scored by James Yu (1G) who found himself alone on the back post from a cross by Charles Amos (1A). The cross sailed across the goal mouth and right to a waiting Yu, who struck the ball low and hard into the back of the net.

The Tigers, though, would falter once again allowing a North Cross goal only four minutes after their own, and moving the score to 1-3.

Once again, though, Hargrave showed life off another perfectly crossed ball into the box. Josh Splinter (1A) found himself towards the right corner making the low cross into the box. The ball found its way to Kayode Ogunnaike (1A), also credited with the assist, who pushed the ball to an open Tim Weir (1G). Weir found himself with time from 12 yards out, took a touch forward, and put the ball in the back of the net with a well-struck hit.

The Tigers were back in it bringing the score to 2-3. Although, the Tigers scoring would end there, and North Cross would add another goal 12 minutes before the half.

Although the Tigers fought hard to get back into the game after being down 2-4 to begin the second half, they could not withstand the offensive pressure from North Cross. North Cross would add two more goals in the second, including a penalty kick, ending the scoring and the game at 2-6. The Tigers were outshot in the match 12-7.

Hargrave Soccer (0-2 conference, 2-4 overall) will return to action Friday, April 15 as they travel to Fishburne Military Academy. Game time is set for 4:00pm.
