Hargrave 3 – Roanoke Catholic 0
With goals from Midfielders Cody Cameron, Austin Newman, and Nathan LeNoir the Hargrave Varsity Soccer Team improved to 10-1 on the season with the win over Roanoke Catholic, 3-0.
Senior Captain Cody Cameron (1G) opened the scoring for the Tigers 11 minutes into the contest after receiving a crossed ball from Midfielder Josh Splinter (1A) to the left side. Cameron drove the ball towards the goal, and nailed a perfectly placed ball into the opposite corner of the net. Forward Patrick Galindo (1A) was also credited with the assist on the play.
Five minutes before the half the Tigers would add their second goal of the contest from Midfielder Austin Newman (1G). Junior Forward Tumi Demuren (1A) started the play with a long, driven pass to the opposite side of the field. Newman collected the pass, and then nailed a powerful shot from 40 yards out over the opposing goalkeeper’s head and into the back of the net.
With the 2-0 lead in hand the Tigers would enter the second half, once again, maintaining the majority of possession, and controlling the flow of play. Midfielder Nathan LeNoir (1G) would add Hargrave’s final tally of the match after picking up a loose ball in the Catholic 18 yard box, and hitting a perfectly placed shot into the left corner of the goal.
Combined with good offensive pressure the Tiger’s defensive effort, once again, took control of the game. Lead by Defenders Adam Crook, Nick Wynne, and Senior Captains Alnor Rodriguez and Chris Martelli the Tigers allowed little room for their goalkeepers to get involved. With another superb defensive effort the Tiger defense only allowed 5 shot attempts from their opponent. Goalkeepers Geof Frazier and Nathan Bloom combined to make only 3 saves. The Tigers recorded 19 shots in the game.
The Tigers will now await their next conference opponent when they host Timberlake Christian on Tuesday, October 18th. Game time is set for 4pm.
