Varsity Soccer vs. Roanoke Catholic School

Cody Cameron scored two goals to give Hargrave the 2-1 win over Roanoke Catholic, on Tuesday.

The first of Cameron’s goals came off a throw-in from Charles Amos, who was credited with the assist, who once again launched a flighted ball into the box. The ball found its way into a pile of bodies, but re-directed into the back of the net by Cameron. The first half would end 1-0.

With the 1-0 lead to begin the second half, Hargrave pushed to create more opportunities, not sitting back or relying on the 1-0 lead. The Tigers, though, would see several chances narrowly miss or pushed away by their opponent’s goalkeeper.

Roanoke Catholic would then add their first goal to tie the game at 1-1 with less than 15 minutes remaining. The goal was scored off a free-kick that was lobbed over the defense, and found its way to a loose attacker. Goalkeeper Nathan Bloom was aggressive to attack the ball, being left with the one-on-one, but could not make the save.

The Tigers, though, would add their second of the game, and Cameron’s second, with less than nine minutes remaining. Off a corner kick from Austin Newman, credited with the assist, the ball into another cluster of players. The ball, though, came loose and right into the path of Cameron who nailed the shot into the back of the net, and giving the Tigers the 2-1 lead.

The Tigers would hold on to lead, ending the game with the 2-1 win. The Tigers outshot their opponent 12-9. Goalkeeper Nathan Bloom finished with 5 saves in the match.

The Tigers record now moves to 4-6-1 overall, and 2-3 in conference play.
