The Hargrave Varsity Soccer Team were unable to find the back of the net, on Tuesday, with a 0-3 loss to Roanoke Valley.
In a game that was hard-fought, and evenly matched, the Tigers saw two shots hit the the post, and several other scoring chances nearly miss. A strong and skilled Roanoke Valley Team, though, were able to capitalize on their opportunities, and capitalized on them early.
In the first half of play RVCS was awarded with a penalty kick nearly minutes after the starting whistle. The Tigers found themselves down early, 0-1. RVCS would add a second goal, making the score 0-2 at the half.
In the second, the Tigers continued to play well, but again were unable finish their scoring opportunities. RVCS would add a third goal putting the Tigers down 0-3. The 0-3 tally would turn out to be the final score of the match.
Both teams played aggressively, and had a strong showing both offensively and defensively in the match. Roanoke Valley outshot the Tigers 14-12.
Goalkeeper Garret Torney performed with a solid effort in the net, making 8 saves, including making the save off of a penalty kick awarded to RVCS in the second half.
Hargrave (4-3-1 overall, 3-3-1 conference) will look to rebound as they travel to Lynchburg Christian on Thursday, September 7. Kick-off time is 4:30pm.
