Varsity Soccer vs. Roanoke Valley Christian School

Hargrave 2 – Roanoke Valley 0

With yet another 2-0 finish the Hargrave Varsity Soccer Team (5-0) remained unbeaten, on Thursday, with the win over Roanoke Valley Christian.

Once again, along with superb play in the net from goalkeeper Geof Frazier, a solid defensive effort from Nick Wynne, Adam Crook, Alnor Rodriguez, and Chris Martelli led the Tigers to victory, and their fourth shutout in five games.

Hargrave opened the scoring with less than two minutes remaining in the first half. Junior forward Tumi Demuren (1G), once again, gave the Tigers the lift recording his fourth goal in five games with a superbly struck volley off a bouncing ball into the back of the net. Defender Adam Crook (1A) was credited with the assist on the Demuren goal.

The Tigers would later add their second goal of the match 15 minutes into the second half. The goal came from midfielder Scott Dinius (1G), tallying his first of the season, when he picked up a loose ball to the right of the penalty marker, and hammered the ball home for the 2-0 lead.

The Tigers hung tough throughout the remainder of the match, and came up just short on several more opportunities at the goal, including a near miss from Dinius when he was denied by the post for his second goal of the match.

Hargrave goalkeeper Geof Frazier, along with his supporting cast in front of him, earned the shutout for the Tigers with incredible play in front of the goal. Frazier finished the match with seven saves. The Tigers forced the opposing goalkeeper to make 12 saves on 16 shots in the match. Roanoke Valley ended the game with only eight recorded attempts.

Hargrave Soccer will return to action Tuesday, September 27 when they take on Holy Cross at home. Game time is scheduled for 4:00.
