Varsity Soccer vs. Timberlake Christian School

Hargrave 1 – Timberlake 1

The Hargrave Varsity Soccer Team drew even with Timberlake Christian on Tuesday by a score of 1-1.

In the midst of a hard-fought contest, and in a game in which Hargrave significantly outshot their opponent the lone goal for the Tigers came from Senior Forward Philippe Armand (1G) with less than four minutes remaining in the second half.

Throughout the first half of play possession of the ball shifted back and forth between both teams. Although, the Tigers could not seem to maintain any consistent flow throughout the half, as their opponent continued to threaten the Tigers goal. Despite the Tigers inconsistent play they still managed to find opportunities in front of their opponent’s goal. The first half of play, though, would end still scoreless.

The Tigers entered the second half with a renewed presence on the field, and maintained the majority of play within their opponent’s defensive end. Despite their consistent pressure on offense the Tigers were still unable to find the back of the net.

Then, with 16 minutes remaining in the match Timberlake capitalized on one of their few chances in second half to take the 1-0 lead. The Tigers, though, did not back down, and continued to press for the equalizer. The Tigers finally found the goal they had been searching for with the Armand goal with less than four minutes remaining in the contest. The Tiger’s Forward received a pass at the top of the opponent’s 18 yard box, turned with the ball, and had a shot on goal that found its way past the Timberlake goalkeeper. Midfielder Scott Dinius (1A) was credited with the assist on the play.

The game would remain tied at the end of two overtime periods, despite numerous chances the Tigers saw come up just short. The Tigers had 31 recorded shots in the contest while giving up only nine to their opponent. Despite the significant amount of shots the Tigers only forced the opposing goalkeeper to make six saves.

Tiger Goalkeeper Geof Frazier finished with a superb effort in the net making four saves in the match.

The tie moves the Tigers into second place in the south conference of the VIC at 10-1-1. Although, with two games remaining in the regular season the Tigers still have the opportunity to secure first place with two wins against both Holy Cross, on Thursday, and Carlisle on Saturday. The Tigers will travel for both games.
