Varsity Soccer vs. Timberlake Christian School

March 11, 2008, Timberlake Box Score

The Hargrave Tigers (1-0) opened the season with goals from seniors Scott Dinius and Austin Koeneman, and with good defensive play were able to secure the 2-0 win over Timberlake Christian on Tuesday. Senior Jordan Horeth also added an assist on the day followed by sophomore Teddy Goldean who also recorded his first assist of the season.

From the opening whistle the Tigers immediately jumped on the offensive with several scoring chances, as they did throughout the contest finishing with 38 total shots to their opponents five. Despite recording 17 shots on goal the Tigers were unable to finish on several chances due to the 15 saves from the Timberlake goalkeeper while the Tiger’s remaining attempts sailed wide and over the goal.

Dinius opened the scoring for the Tigers at the 25:25 mark of the first half on a solo effort with a shot from about 30 yards out that beat the Timberlake goalkeeper for the 1-0 advantage. Koeneman followed suit just over seven minutes later with the Tiger’s second at the 32:35. The Koeneman goal was set up after an exchange of the ball between Goldean and Horeth deep in the left corner. Horeth received the pass from Goldean bringing the ball back to just outside of the left side of the penalty box, and then sent a right footed cross to the back post where Koeneman met it perfectly for the point blank put away.

With the 2-0 advantage in hand much of the game remained the same story for the Tigers in controlling most of the offensive end of the ball. Tiger goalkeeper Brad Faught played well in net seeing limited opportunities from Timberlake, but did come away with making four saves for the Tigers.

The Tigers will return to action Friday, March 14 when they travel to Roanoke to take on Cave Spring. Game time is set for 5:00.
