Varsity Soccer vs. Timberlake Christian School

Hargrave 4 – Timberlake 0

The Hargrave Tigers (7-0) picked up another well-earned victory, on Thursday, with a 4-0 finish against Timberlake Christian. With the victory the Tigers have posted their sixth shutout in seven games; tallying 22 goals while allowing only two through the first half of the season in conference play.

The Tigers took control of the game early on scoring two goals within the first five minutes. Senior Captain Cody Cameron (2G) added the first for the Tigers three minutes into the game. Forward Patrick Galindo (1A) was credited with the assist when he drove the ball down the right side of the field towards the opponent’s goal, and sent a precise pass in across to the left side of the 18 yard box. With a great timed run Cameron ran onto the Galindo pass, and nailed the shot with ease into the back of the net. Less than two mintues later Midfielder Nathan LeNoir (1G, 1A) added Hargrave’s second goal of the match. The goal came from an attempted cross from LeNoir that was deflected, but then found its way right back to him. LeNoir then decided to strike the ball, and powered the shot into the back of the net deflecting it off of the opposing goalkeeper.

With the 2-0 lead in hand the Tigers continued to control the flow of the game, and continuously putting pressure on their opponent. Ten minutes later the Tigers made it a 3-0 game with a goal from Captain Josh Splinter (1G, 1A) with a failed cross that turned into lofted ball over the goalkeeper’s head and into the back of the net. Splinter was quoted as saying it was a planned shot, but spectators may beg to differ.

Entering the second half of play the Tigers continued to keep control of the game well in hand. Cameron would add his second goal of the match six mintues in giving Hargrave the 4-0 lead. LeNoir and Splinter would both be credited with the assists on the play.

Once again, the defensive effort put forth by the Tigers was key in securing the victory. The Tiger defense continuously turned away any opportunities their opponent attempted to create. Through 80 mintues of play the Tigers allowed only six shots while recording 15 attempts of their own. Goalkeepers Geof Frazier and Nathan Bloom shared in posting the shutout with a combined four saves.

Hargrave Soccer will return to action on Tuesday, October 4th when they travel to take on Westover Christian.
