Varsity Soccer Wins Against North Cross

Jeremy Eubank

The Tigers returned to the field in their lone game of the week in a real David vs. Goliath (North Cross) VIC matchup against state semi-finalist from last year North Cross. Coming into the matchup at #5 in Division 2, the Tigers took down North Cross 4-3.

The Tigers were able to open the scoring for the game in the 3rd minute with a great through ball at the 6′ by winger Caleb Gibbons (Toledo, OH) that reached winger Youssef Abouzied (Cairo, Egypt) for the early lead. In the 15th minute, forward Raines Wall ( Chatham, VA ) was able to find the back in the net for the Tigers to take a commanding 2-0 lead. That did not stop the Raiders of North Cross as they were able to even it up by the end of the first half to make it 2-2.

“We caught them off-guard in the opening 25 minutes of the game,” stated head coach Jeremy Eubank. “We came out and set the tone that we are here and are ready to play.”

Play is what the Tigers did in the second half as Wall was able to find the back of net for his 2nd of 3 goals in the 45th minute to make it 3-2 Tigers. In the 76th minute Gibbons was able to find Wall again to make it 4-2 Tigers. However, the Raiders would come in a fury as they were able to add a goal in the 78th minute to make it 4-3. In the closing seconds of the game, defender Kyle Pisciotta (Greensboro, North Carolina) was able to clear the ball off the line to seal the win for Tigers.

“I am very proud of our guys,” stated Eubank. “This win exemplifies the true team spirit, the family, and the brotherhood that they guys have developed in the last four weeks.”

That moves the Tigers to 8-1-1 overall and 3-0-1 in the VIC. The Tigers will return to action on Monday at home at 4:30 against Roanoke Valley Christian.
