The Tigers took on the Barons of Blue Ridge School on Friday evening in their first VIC (Virginia Independent Conference) clash of the season. It was a tight contest throughout and the Tigers were able to prevail with a late game winner for the 2-1 win.

The Tigers opened up the scoring in the 25th minute with an unassisted goal from Youssef Abouzied (Cairo, Egypt) to take the 1-0 lead. They were able to maintain the lead through the half with the another great defensive performance by defenders Chad Demarest (Naples, FL), Hayden Everett (Chatham, VA), Jordan Dunn (Charlotte, NC), Jesse Vogg (Garner, NC), and goalkeeper John Seepe (4 saves on the night – Danville, VA). “This contest is always a battle of two physical teams that are very well matched,” stated Head Coach Jeremy Eubank. “We knew going into it we would need to play a complete 80 minute match.”

In the opening kickoff from the Barons’ goal, the Tigers were able to respond as forward Paul Hughes (Danville, VA) played the ball to Abouzied who hit an amazing shot from midfield over the outreached Barons’ goalkeeper for the game winner. “I knew once I hit it that it was going in,” said Abouzied. “This gives us a lot of momentum going into next week against Miller School.”

The Tigers will return to the field on Wednesday, September 13 against Miller School out of Charlottesville at 4:30 at Simpson Parade Field.
