Varsity Swimming Defeats North Cross

John Eife

The swim team traveled to Roanoke to compete against the North Cross School. Last night they met the buzzsaw of the Hargrave Tigers. Hargrave won 115 to 45.

Not only did we dominate the competition, but our Cadets are swimming at or better than they were at last year championship meets. This is an exciting accomplishment since we have worn them down mid season, with a heavy dose of practice on land and in the pool.

Our Medley relay posted a time three seconds faster than their conference championship time last year. Cadet Ian Sayers took a full second off of his 100y Backstroke time from conference champs. Cadet Jack Carlson swam the 100y Breaststroke and dropped an amazing three seconds off of his life time best. Our 200y Freestyle relay also dropped two seconds. Cadet Wesley Harrell’s 50y Freestyle time would have placed him second at last years champs, an event he didn’t even swim! This is not the time of year when coaches typically expect big drops, but I’ll take it.

We won eight of eleven events, including two of three relays. Individual winners were Cadets Sayers (200y Freestyle), Dionisio Carey (200y IM & 100y Back), Harrell (50y & 100y Freestyle) and Freshman Clement Bowe (100y Butterfly).

Our next challenge will be against the athletic EC Glass HS on December 20th at Hargrave. Hope to see you there.

Varsity swimming crusing to a win.
