The Hargrave men swam the second meet of the year last night. This meet was three meets in one. The first meet was HMA vs. VIC Conference opponent Covenant School. The score was HMA 138-Covenant 39. The second meet was against Benedictine. The score was HMA 135- Benedictine 42. The last was against three time defending state champion St. Christopher’s. The score in this meet was HMA 93- St. Chris 93. This raises the men’s overall record to 5-0-1.

The men were lead this night by senior captain Mike Wheeler who won two events. Mike won the 50 Freestyle swimming his second fastest time ever 23.2 and the 100 Breast in his fastest time 1:06.4. The team was next lead by three swimmers all who won one event and finished second in another. These swimmers were Graham Wooten, Patrick Martelli, and James Eu. Graham won the 200 Free and finished 2nd in the 100 Back to two state swimmer of the year Bryan Pinkston. Patrick Martelli won the 200 IM and finished second in the 100 fly and once again to Bryan Pinkston. James Eu won the 500 Free and finished second to Patrick Martelli in the 200 IM. Other cadet winning events were Jacob Dole who won the 100 Free and finishing fourth in the 100 Backstroke. The men also won two of the three relay in the meet. The first was the 200 Medley Relay in VIC record breaking time of 1:44.10. This Relay was made up of Graham Wooten, Mike Wheeler, Patrick Martelli, and Jacob Dole. The second was the 400 Freestyle Relay also in VIC record breaking time and HMA team record of 4:23.06. This team was made up of Patrick Martelli, Graham Wooten, Jacob Dole, and James Eu. The men outscored St. Chris 90 to 80 in swimming, however were outscored 13-3 in diving causing that final score of 93-93.

The men swam extremely well and can only hope to repeat that performance with help of our post-graduate swimmers against the nation’s second best independent school and 15 others at Mercersburg Academy on Saturday.
