Varsity Swimming/Diving vs. VIC/BRC Championship

The Hargrave men’s swimming team has not brought home the VIC title in many years. The meet did not start off very well for Hargrave. Our first relay was disqualified. Also, a member of the relay team was sick and not performing at his best during a second event.

After two events, North Cross jumped out to a commanding leading over Hargrave. The third event did not go any better for Hargrave as another Cadet was sick. We also earned a second disqualification. After three events, North Cross was up 35 points over Hargrave and were looking to run away with the meet.

The Hargrave team pulled together and talked about swimming through sickness in an effort to get back into the race. The next event was the 50 Free and Hargrave swam very well taking 1st, 2nd, 3rd, and 6th, cutting North Cross’ lead to just 4 points.

The next event was the 100 Fly. Hargrave took 2nd, and 3rd to pull the team even with North Cross. The team had the momentum, but needed one more, great swims to position themselves for winning the meet.

The very next event was the 100 Free, and Hargrave, with their single best performance as a team in the meet, went 1st, 2nd, 3rd, and 4th to create a 22 point lead over North Cross. From this point, Hargrave closed out the meet by winning the last two relays and splitting the points in the individual events to win the VIC Championship.

The VIC individual title went to James Eu, Mike Wheeler, Jonathan Waltz, and Jarred Wood. The team swam well at the end and really came together as a team. They made both themselves and the school proud.
