On Tuesday night, February 7, 2006, the Hargrave swimming team won its second straight conference championship. The team swam very well and accumulated at total point score of 228. This was 145 points more than their nearest competitor. In fact, Hargrave scored 228 points out of 476 total points for the meet. This meant that the second through fifth place team’s total combined score was limited to 248 points.
The effort was lead by high point award winner Patrick Martelli. Pat scored a total of 27 points to lead all males in the conference. Pat was followed by senior and team captain Mike Wheeler. Mike scored 25 points.
Hargrave placed six swimmers in the Top 10 Point Scorer for the meet. The other four individuals, besides Mike and Pat, were Graham Wooten, who tied Mike for second with 25 points, Jared Wood, Jacob Dole and James Eu. The team also broke all three relay records in the meet.
Further, they had 10 swimmers out of 20 to be named first team all conference. The swimmers that earned the honor of First Team All Conference are Mike Wheeler, Patrick Martelli, Jacob Dole, Graham Wooten, James Eu, Drew Bennett, Andrew McIntyre, Joseph Campbell and Thad Meekins.
In all, six different cadets won events and the team performed at a level that leads to the potential for great things at States.
Their next meet will be the State Championship that will be held at The University of Virginia on February 17th and 18th.
