What a difference a weekend makes! From sleet and hail last week to near-record highs, the weather seemed to mirror the Hargrave Tennis fortunes. Waking up from a cold slumber, the Tigers welcomed the Carlisle (Martinsville, VA) Chiefs with what appeared to be a completely different team at the Landon Tennis Center. Several Tigers were able to jump out to big leads against their opponents and never looked back. Dan Kim, Rafi Tudela, Haotian Liu, and Turner Wall posted definitive wins. Frankie Chang and Reid Dantonio each continued to battle their opponents for each point before their respective matches finally tipped onto the Chiefs side. At the end of Singles play, the team score of 4-2.
Kim and Liu teamed up at 1st doubles to neutralize their Chief counterparts, 8-4. Tudela and Wall shook off a slow start to pound out an 8-3 victory at 2nd doubles. And Zachary Bunner and WeiAn Chen held off a determined Chief duo in a long effort that really isn’t reflect in the 8-4 score. The three doubles victories made the team score 7-2, raising the team season record to 2-3.
The team truly appreciated the support of the family, friends, faculty and staff that dropped by during the matches. Our next match is Thursday, April 11 at the Liberty University courts where we will take on LCA.
