Varsity Wresting open season with Cody Day Invitational

Coach Ed Ott

Once again Hargrave hosted our first wrestling tournament for the season including first matches for many of our Cadets. And in spite of minor technological glitches, CPT Davis, Coach Robinson and Coach Paris did a fine job of keeping everything flowing as smooth as possible. I would also like to thank our many Cadet helpers who supported us by running the front gate, concession stand, score tables, etc.

Our first round of matches was largely unimpressive mainly due to first-match jitters. Only Two of our guys, Lowe and Decker won their matches. Our second round of matches proved much more exciting to watch as Griffith, Mize, Slay and Scott beat their opponents. Richardson, Covino and Kines may not have won but they showed a much more aggressive attempt and put their training to use. The third and fourth round ended up being the toughest filters with some surprising upsets, for and against us.

Hargrave ended the night with Decker and Lowe taking 3rd place medals, Mize, Murray, and Slay each with a 4th place, Scott at 5th and Griffith at 6th place. Overall our cadets wrestled hard and showed great sportsmanship in the face of some competition that has much more experience than we. They finished 7th overall.

Make sure to congratulate each one of them for their hard work and try to come on down for our next match against Chatham and Dan River high schools this Thursday night. See you there!
