VES Edges out the Tigers

Matt Brawn

The 8-4 Tigers traveled to Lynchburg on Friday to face-off against the Bishops of Virginia Episcopal School. Going into the contest, VES was Ranked #1 in VISAA Division II play, with a shortened roster due to conflicts the Tigers had their work cut out for them.

Tigers dominated the play for the first quarter as VES struggled to gain any offensive momentum. As the contest progressed into the second quarter, the Tigers continued to play with the amount of “Heart and Hustle” for two teams. VES gained some offensive traction and started to pick away at the Tigers lead. At the half, the Tigers remained in the lead by a margin of 6-5. The third period of play saw the Tigers and Bishops draw even with excellent play by both squads. The final quarter of play was where VES took the lead from the Tigers to secure the victory for the Bishops.

The Bishops were able to control the face-offs in the late stages of the game and keep up with the Tigers on the defensive, stifling their offensive pressure from earlier in the game. As the final buzzer sounded, the Bishops edged out the Tigers 12-8. The 4 point goal difference was the smallest margin of victory that the Bishops have ever had over the Tigers, a true testament to the grit and determination of the 15 man roster the Tigers put on the field Friday. Short on players but not on the effort the Tigers gave everything they had and truly left it all out on the field at the end of the day.

Players making significant contributions in the game were, Connor Rogers, Nick Duran, Alex Wilson, Patrick Lord, Iver Liu, Caleb Rogers, Jake Bledsoe, Chad Demarest, Jackson Reeder and Ben Perry.
