Weather, Course Conditions, Competition Slow Down Tigers

Benjamin J Veshi

The Runnin’ Tigers took a trip to Roanoke, Virginia on Thursday afternoon for a tri-meet with North Cross and Roanoke Catholic. Hargrave ran hard and placed 3rd (62 points) behind North Cross (1st-21 points) and Roanoke Catholic (2nd-37 points).

Heading towards Roanoke is always a challenge due to mountainous conditions and stiff competition. However, Thursday afternoon also presented an interesting challenge: sweltering heat. Unfortunately, the combination of all three elements caused the Tigers to come up short of their goals as a team, despite strong individual performances. Wesley Marquardt maintained great pace throughout the race and placed first for the Tigers with a time of 22:37. Marquardt was followed by Mason Schrage (24:02), Luke Atkins (24:17), Scott Kennedy (24:23), and Caleb Chester (25:40). Negatu Syrcle (25:59), Gage Crisp (26:51); Jay Thompson (27:28), Ethan Teluk (31:03), and Bennett Soles (31:37) rounded out the field for the Tigers.

Quick turnaround for the Runnin’ Tigers this week as they head to Lynchburg, Virginia on Saturday, October 5th for the Virginia Episcopal School Invitational. Hargrave will be shorthanded but that won’t stop the Tigers from running their hardest!
