Westover falls to Hargrave’s hot bats

Coach Brett Thomas

The Hargrave varsity baseball team continued to show it’s offensive power defeating Westover Christian Academy Tuesday by a score of 16-4. Hargrave used a very good pitching attack from Cadet Nick Paul and continued to show lots of promise offensively to jump on Westover early and never look back.

Hargrave jumped out to an early 7-0 lead in the first inning with hits by Cadets Matt Harris, Darrell Smith, Riggs Jordan, Kristian Ragland, a double by Keegan Ferer and a triple by Braden Barnett. Hargrave scored another run in the third inning on another Ragland hit, before coming home in the fourth breaking the game wide open and putting the game out of reach for good with eight runs. These guys continue to show promise and improvement day by day, game by game. Westover scratched a run across in the second inning, two runs in the third inning and added another run in the fifth inning but never could get anything going against Paul. Paul pitched four strong innings for the Tigers, facing eighteen batters, giving up three hits, allowing three runs and striking out six Westover batters.

Offensively, the Tigers were led by Ferer who went 2-3, with 2 runs scored, 3 RBI’s, Smith who  was 3-3 with 3 runs scored, 2 stolen bases and an RBI, Barnett who was 3-3 with 2 runs scored, missed hitting for the cycle by just a Home Run and adding 4 RBI’s, Jordan who was 2-3 with 2 runs scored, a stolen base, and Ragland who was 3-3, 2 runs scored and 4 RBI’s.

Thanks for all who was in attendance, your support is greatly appreciated as these guys continue their journey.

The Tigers will be back in action Friday traveling to Fuqua for a 4:30pm start.

Barnett safe at third base on his triple.
