Wrestling Battles in Jordan Amos Duals Tournament

Benjamin J Veshi

This past Saturday morning, the Tigers made the short trip to Tunstall High School (Dry Fork, Virginia) to compete in the Jordan Amos Duals Tournament.

Overall, Hargrave competed in five different matches and placed 3rd for the tournament, falling just short of second place by a minor margin of two points. The morning started off rocky for the Tigers as they lost to Bassett (48-33). “With such a young group, I wasn’t sure how we would respond,” remarked head coach, Matt Vinson. “But to our guys credit, we showed the ability to bounce back and we competed with great toughness.”

And the Tigers certainly bounced back over the next three matches as they defeated Dan River (54-30), Cary Academy (54-24), and Liberty (42-35). Heading into the final match against the host, Tunstall, Hargrave felt like they were in position to end the day with another win. The Tigers eventually fell to Tunstall (42-36) after a hard fought match that came down to the final seconds.

Notable Performances Included:
