The Tiger Grapplers traveled to High Point North Carolina for a head to head match with Wesleyan Christian Academy.
We took a 13 cadet varsity team and 6 Jv members for the event.
We started the match at 106 pounds where unfortunately we don’t have a little cadet, so we gave up a forfeit and 6 points. Next at 113 pounds Cadet Kerry Gray took the mat and brought The Tigers back to a 6 to 6 tie with a pin in the first period. At 120 pounds Cadet Alexander Gonzalez took the mat and put up a good fight but ultimately was pinned. Next at 126 pounds Cadet Carson Perrow stepped onto the line to battle for the Tigers. Perrow also suffered a pin loss while giving the match a great effort. Cadet David Mathurin made his debut this season in the varsity line up with a strong performance at 132 pounds, In the end he was also pinned by his opponent. The Tigers picked up two wins at 138 pounds and 144 pounds as Cadet Thomas Vaughan defeated his opponent by 15 points for technical fall. Cadet Lucas Lopez then attacked his opponent and secured a pin win for Hargrave. At 150 pounds Also making his varsity debut we had Cadet Charles Gaddy. Cadet Gaddy battled the entire 6 minutes of his match to ultimately lose on a major decision. At 157 pound we had another first time varsity wrestler as Cadet Eden Moise took to the match for his first go. Cadet Moise was pinned by his opponent but came off the match with a big smile and was ready to go to the next one. Cadet Marco Martin stepped onto the mat for the tigers at 165 pounds wrestling up a weight class from where he wants to be. Martin gave the match a good fight however his older and stronger opponent got the better of him in the end. Cadet Arjun Gopalakrishna took the mat at 175 pounds and earned a Major decision for the Tigers by beating his opponent by more than 10 points. Cadet Joshua McGrail took on the next challenger at 190 pounds and held his own for a while but in the end his opponent was able to defeat him. At 215 pound Cadet Eh Mu battled hard and had the lead until he was rolled through, reversed and then pinned by his opponent. The final match of the event at heavyweight saw Cadet Sergie Morosov battle against a few large and very fast heavyweight from Wesleyan. Morosov was pinned. The final score of the varsity match was Wesleyan Christian 58 Hargrave 21.
In the 6 exhibition matches Hargrave wrestlers won 4 of the matches with Cadet Cruise Saieed and Cadet Ashton Talbot giving a good match but not picking up the victory. Cadet Tristan Schwartz, Cadet TJ Hylton, Cadet Charles Rock and Cadet Karim Roberts all picked up pin wins in their matches.
