Wrestling Tournament At Magna Vista High School

Ed Ott

Our guys braved a cold, early start for an all-day dual team tournament, winning two and losing two meets. Typically our competitors have “feeder” programs, giving them several years of experience ahead of our guys. Yet, we fought like Tigers and, had one match been in our favor, we would have had 3 wins. So Coach Medlin and I are quite proud of how the team performed overall.

Sebastian Richardson went the distance several times and beat two of his opponents, one in overtime. The one match he lost was only in the last 30 seconds.

Addison Saleh went up against a state-placer from last year, and after his opponent figured out that he couldn’t pin Saleh, he resorted to takedown-escape tactics to outscore him.

Annad Khraisat earned a win by a single point. In another match against a more experienced wrestler, did not give up the pin.

Michael Ugwa came out like a whirlwind and pinned one opponent in under 40 seconds, but against a previous state-placer was surprised by some solid techniques and got pinned just as fast.

Gage Crisp, Colton Jackson, and Quinn Griffith also earned a pin in the first period. Cameron Spangler alone remained undefeated for the day with only one match ending in a decision.

We’d like to thank the parents and staff who helped cheer on our Tigers. This coming weekend we will participate in another dual team tournament at Averett University in Danville, so please show your support by coming and let your voices cheer us on.
