Fall 2006 PG Football vs. Louisburg Junior College

Hargrave PG defeats Louisburg Hurricanes 29-19
Game never in question as Tigers cruise to victory

The Hargrave post-graduate football team took to the field for the first time in two weeks and showed no sign of rust from the long wait. The Tigers came out firing on all cylinders as it took them just five plays to find the end zone for the first time. Quarterback Emanuel Francis found future Maryland Terrapin receiver Ronnie Tyler from 50-yards out to put the PG’s up 7-0 early in the first quarter.

The defense came out with some fire as well as the Tigers sacked Louisburg on eight separate occasions throughout the game. After their second defensive stop of the game the offense had another chance to extend their lead. This time it was running back Randell Bell who changed his field after the hand off and scampered in from 10-yards out to give the Tigers a 14-0 lead.

The defense once stood tough lead by the stellar play of linebackers Russ Wantowski, Almondo Sewell, Shane Shead, and Chris Drayton. The secondary shut down the Hurricane offense all day led by some big time hits by Clemson bound safety DeAndre McDaniel.

The PG’s started a drive deep in their own territory on the ensuing possession, but did not take long to move it down the field. Quarterback Jamie Childers found another future Terp receiver in Quintin McCree for a 35-yard strike. Just as it looked like the Tigers would put a dagger in the Hurricanes the officials had different plans. Three holding calls by the officials would back the PG’s up. The first negated a touchdown completion to receiver Livington Senatus that would have put Hargrave up by three scores. Instead, it was kicker Kyle Hughes who stayed perfect on the season with a 35-yard field goal to give the Tigers a 17-0 advantage.

The next possession showed the PG defensive line stand out. Ladi Ajiboye, Zach Hillary, Kyle Anderson, Miguel Chavis, Cliff Geathers, Jatrel Rollins, Jon Hollins, and Cowles Stewart, among others kept constant pressure on the Hurricane offense.

Although the next offensive drive stalled again with flag happy officials, Jamie Childers gave the crowd plenty to cheer about. The 6’5” quarterback lowered his shoulder on a run play and leveled the defensive back who would think twice about tackling the speedy QB in the future.

Andrew Calantone would have some highlights at quarterback as well. The ragging Cajun from Shreveport, LA found Tennessee bound receiver Brent Vinson on a 25-yard toss. He also found future Auburn Tiger receiver Chris Slaughter on a pair of passes along with a completion to Livington Senatus.

The Tigers would put another score on the board in the third quarter after an errant punt by the Hurricanes. Jamie Childers tossed it to Emanuel Francis who threw a bomb to Quintin McCree for the touchdown to extend the lead to 23-6.

The PG’s capped the scoring when Jamie Childers found Chris Slaughter from 35-yards out to give Hargrave a lead that they would not surrender. The Tigers would surrender a few late fourth quarter scores, but that score would give the PG’s a 29-6 lead. Hargrave was able to gain a first down by some hard running by full back Richard Parker and running backs Bell, HB Banjoman, Jovan Davis, and Demetrius Goode that would allow them to take three consecutive kneel downs to end the game.

The PG’s take a short week before heading to Morgantown, WV to battle with #5 West Virginia University. The PG’s have never beat the Mountaineers, but should be up to the challenge with the offense and defense clicking. Game time is set for 1:00 PM on Friday. The team will depart on Thursday morning and take in the Mountaineers Thursday night game versus the University of Maryland that will be on ESPN at 7:45 PM
