Owen Leads Tigers in Narrow Defeat

The Hargrave Tigers took the short trip through Route 57 to take on the Chiefs of Carlisle School. In their most competitive match of the season, the Tigers fought valiantly but fell 5-4 to Carlisle.

Short-handed and on their second match of the week, these young Tigers didn’t make any excuses and they were fired up to compete against Carlisle! Each match, both singles and doubles, were tightly contested throughout but the pressure didn’t seem to bother Hargrave. Per Head Coach, Jim Tung, “These guys had a fire in their eyes that told me they were ready to compete and these young men brought their best today. Although the overall match didn’t go our way, these guys walked off the courts with their heads held high and with a belief that they can put everything together and compete!”

One individual that stood out was sophomore Alex Owen (Blairs, VA). Owen, who missed the early part of the season with an ankle injury, is still working through the rehab process but is starting to feel more like himself on the court. And it showed on Thursday afternoon as Owen won his singles match from the #1 position and then paired up with David Chen ’22 (Chiang Mai, THAILAND) to secure a win in the #1 doubles match as well!

Other Notable Performances Included:
Quang Le ’23 (Houston, TX) — #6 Singles Match Victory
Nicholas Brown ’25 (Chatham, VA) & Patrick Souza ’25 (Halifax, VA) — #3 Doubles Match Victory

The Tigers are hitting the road on Tuesday April 20th for their final road match of the regular season. Hargrave heads to Virginia Episcopal School in Lynchburg, Virginia. Match time is set for 4:30 PM.
