Senior Night Swim/Dive Meet Recap

Benjamin J Veshi

On Tuesday evening, the Hargrave Tigers honored their five competing senior swimmers as they hosted their final regular season meet.

Hargrave’s Senior class includes:
Kip Barksdale (Winston-Salem, North Carolina)
Gabriel Chester (Chatham, Virginia)
Tristyn Gavulic (Niceville, Florida)
Joseph Scott Kennedy (Hillsborough, North Carolina)
Michael Lewis (Raleigh, North Carolina)

With everyone hyped up and excited to swim, the Tigers took to the pool to face off with Roanoke Catholic (VIC) and Martinsville, a non-conference opponent. The main focus of the evening was to honor the seniors, but Hargrave had some extra motivation in the back of their minds as well-avenging their early season loss to Roanoke Catholic. After a great showing, the Tigers emerged victorious as a team on the heels of some big time individual performances!

Hargrave 132
Roanoke Catholic 106
Martinsville 18

Wesley Marquardt ’21–stepped on the gas for the last 5 yards (200 Freestyle) but unfortunately just fell short of beating Scott Kennedy by 0.01 seconds! Both set personal records in that event! Marquardt also swam his fastest 100 Freestyle

Ethan Teluk ’22–dropped another second off his 100 freestyle
Corliss Trinkner ’21–attempted 11 dives for this meet, but unfortunately he failed 2 of the dives which meant an unfortunate DQ. Otherwise, he would have scored his highest number of points to date! But he did swim his fastest ever 50 freestyle, so that’s a win!

The Tigers are back in action on Friday, February 7th from the ODAC as they host the 2020 VIC/BRS Conference Swimming Championship.
