Summer Sports

Hargrave affords young men the opportunity to participate in athletics on a daily basis. We offer the following selections, available in two-week sessions. If a young man wishes to participate in the same offering for all four weeks, he may do so.

Basketball

Develop your skills in historic Walter Davis Gymnasium! Whether you’re coming in as a highly recruited athlete or someone playing the sport for the first time, the coaches will help you improve! Led by members of the staff of both the Post-Graduate and Varsity staff, you are sure to come away with a marked improvement! Activities will range from basic conditioning and skill work to team and individual competitions by the end of the session.

Football

Take to the gridiron this summer and get ready for the upcoming football season! Participants will take part in individual skill and conditioning drills on the field, with weight room sessions sprinkled in as well. No matter what your position is, our coaching staff will help you improve your craft each day, as well as branching out to experience other positions during the session.

Swimming

Take advantage of the gorgeous Onishi-Davenport pool on a daily basis and work on your skills! Work on your strokes, practice your diving skills, or even learn how to swim! This selection will afford you the opportunity to work with a coach directly to move towards your individual goals — no matter what they are! Friendly timed competitions and free-time activities like pool basketball and water polo are sprinkled into the offerings during the session.

Soccer

Participants will work on both individual skill and team-building exercises over the course of the program. With guest speakers and video study sprinkled in, there’s no doubt that each young man will walk away with an improved skill set and perspective on the sport! Individual ball-handling, shooting, goal-keeping, defending tactics, and soccer conditioning are all part of the program.

Tennis

Tennis camp is designed to provide a fun learning experience for players of any skill level and background. They will learn fundamentals and improve their game. Good “fitness habits” will be taught and reinforced (stretching, agility, mental toughness, goal setting, etc.) in addition to tennis-specific activities: stroke improvement and control drills, understanding point development, game and match situations, tactics, and strategies. Hargrave’s six tennis courts and separate practice walls are located on campus.

Weight Training

Unsupervised or improper weight training is a leading cause of injury among young athletes. Our Weight Training offering will focus on individual fitness and safe techniques. Participants will have scaffolded workouts in the newly renovated weight room on a daily basis. There will also be general and targeted fitness routines for students looking to build muscle for their fall sports.

Leisure Sports

For the student who wants a little taste of everything, our Leisure Sports offering is a perfect way to get out and have some fun with other students on the field, pitch, courts, or in the pool. Track & Field, Flag Football, Basketball, and Tennis are among the activities in which the Leisure Sports students will participate!

Baseball

Participants will work on both individual skill and team-building exercises over the course of the program. Coached by Frank Thomas, former Hargrave player and long-time Hargrave team member, with special guests for specialized skill drills and training sessions. Each young man will walk away with an improved skill set and perspective on the sport!

Golf

Golf camp is designed to provide a fun learning experience for players of any skill level and background. They will learn fundamentals and improve their game. In addition to golf-specific activities, good “fitness habits” will be taught and reinforced (stretching, agility, mental toughness, goal setting, etc.). Participants will use Hargrave’s on-campus practice facility and travel to local courses for practice and rounds.
