Hargrave’s four pillars – academics, character, faith, and athletics – combine to create a blueprint for developing leaders.
Throughout their Hargrave experience, students put leadership into practice daily – in the classroom, on the sports field, within our Corps of Cadets, and in our communities. Students learn that the ability to follow – rules, people, procedures, and principles – is an essential ingredient of leadership, and their leadership skills are cultivated by gifted, passionate educators and mentors who care deeply about the progress and development of each student.
Leadership in academics is cultivated through rigorous coursework and the guidance of educators who challenge students to excel and lead by example. Within the military program, students learn to lead and follow with honor and integrity, understanding the weight of their responsibilities and the impact of their decisions. Athletics stretch students’ capability, instilling the value of teamwork and underlining the importance of discipline in building skill and character. Some students will rise to leadership through faith, finding purpose in balancing humility and responsibility while pursuing a higher purpose.
Hargrave graduates intuitively understand that leadership combines competence and character, helping people and organizations reach lofty goals. Leadership is taking the path less traveled, sacrificing for a greater cause, and often being the one to take the first step.
