Win. 7-0 on the season. Every member of the team played significant minutes, many in positions and combinations they weren't used to being. Josh Rudolph had a monster first quarter on both ends of the floor to get us going and ended the game with 13 points, 3 Rebounds, 2 Assists, and 4 Steals. Grant Chandler added 9 points, 2 rebounds, and a blocked shot. He is leading the team in blocked shots on the season and is one of the smallest members of the team. Brenden Courrier added 6 points, 1 rebound, and 1 steal while playing all 5 poisitions. Nick Barr had 4 points, 2 rebounds, and team highs of 3 assists, and 5 steals with no turn-overs. David Kanaszka finished out the scoring with 2 points to go along with 2 rebounds. Every member of the team had at least one rebound: Keiland Harris had 1, Jacob Eye 1, Afsheen Robinson 2, Steven Williams 2, and Andrew Sigmon 3. Williams added 2 assists, while Sigmon added a steal and blocked shot. On the day we shot poorly at 30% from the field and 58% from the line. We totalled 24 rebounds, 7 assists, 12 steals, 2 blocked shots, and 9 turn-overs.

Win. 3-0 on the season. Being behind for the first time this season, We responded well after a poor first quarter. We only allowed 2 points in the second and 3 points in the third quarter. Scoring was evenly distributed throughout the team. Josh Rudolph had 9 points, 3 rebounds, and 4 steals. Keiland Harris and Nick Barr both had 8 points, Grant Chandler had 7, Brenden Courrier had 4, Kris Hagans 3, Jarrod Patterson and Jacob Eye 2, and Andrew Sigmon added a free throw. Nick lead the team rebounding with 5 . Keiland had seven assists and 4 steals. Jarrod Patterson had 4 steals and 3 rebounds. Andrew added three rebounds and three steals. The post defense by Andrew, David Kanaszka, Jarrod, and Brenden was suffocating. We cleared the bench in the 4th quarter letting everyone play long stretches, and those players actually lead us to our best quarter offensively. As a team we shot 52% from the field. 1/4 from the 3point line, and 57% from the free throw line.

JV Basketball vs. Westover Christian Academy

May 27, 2011

Win. 1-0 on season. The JV Tigers started the season on a positive note. We scored the first dozen points of the game and then played about even with Westover the rest of the way. We scored 12, 13, 12, and 12 points by quarter so we were very consistant. The last 5 minutes of the game, we went into a stall and forced the opponent to foul us. To the team's credit, we made all 6 of our free throws from that point on to ice the game. Nick Barr had 17 points, including 2 three pointers in a row to open the final period, 3 assists, 2 steals, and 8 rebounds. Josh Rudolph had 9 points on 4/4 shooting and 4 rebounds. Andrew Sigmon had a team high 4 steals to go along with 5 rebounds and 1 point. Jarrod Patterson had a very effective game off the bench with 3 points, 1 assist, 5 rebounds including 4 offensive, 2 steals, and several stops on the defensive end. Rounding out the stats were Keiland Harris with 6 points, 1 assist, 2 steals, and 2 rebounds; Afshean Robinson with 2 points, 1 assist; Grant Chandler(an eighth grader) with 7 points, 1 assist, 1 steal, and 1 rebound; Brenden Courrier with 4 points, 1 assist, and 2 rebounds; and Steven Williams with 1 rebound. JV Basketball vs. Roanoke Valley (VIC Southern Championship Match)

May 27, 2011

RVCS played a tough semi-final game including overtime to send the home team Timberlake team off. We dominated RVCS twice during the season, but they played a completely different style. They used their big bodies to bang on our smaller players. This game was a brawl. Every point got harder than the previous and our 8 point lead at half was only extended by one at the end of the third. The final period pitted an exhaused group of Tigers against a pumped up Roanoke squad. I pulled our bigger players for ball handlers most of the quarters and had the guards run away and around to kill the clock. We only had 3 field goals in the final period out of 6 attempts but went to the free throw line late to seal the game. On the game we were 10/16 from the line, including 6/9 in the last minute. Nick Barr had his highest scoring output of the season with a quiet 24 including 5 3-pointers. Collin Ferguson and Chase Babington had 6, Daniel McCauley 5, Matt Long and Matt Reynolds ended with 4 apiece. This was Hargrave's 6th game- all wins in 6 days. We were exhausted and very happy. Nick Barr was named the tournament MVP and Collin Ferguson joined him as the other representative on the all tournament team. Many parents and families supported us for the two day tournament so that they were just as loud as the Lynchburg and Roanoke teams' supporters. The JV team carries a 16-1 record into the VIC championship game at Lynchburg college on 2/28 at 3:30. Win or Lose- This is the best group of kids on and off the court I could have the pleasure to coach.

JV Basketball vs. North Cross School (VIC Conference Play Off)

May 27, 2011

Playing the same team as we finished the regular season with did not create the problems I anticipated. We were leading 31 - 7 at the half. I emptied the bench the rest of the game, so the starters had plenty of rest and the role players had lots of time. Matt Reynolds (1 pt), Matt Long(4 pts), Jeff Oboite(season high 5 pts), and Chase Babington(4 pts) owned the middle. They blocked many shots and had about every rebound that could be had. Daniel McCauley had a team high 14 points, Nick Barr 9, Gary Sue 8, and Collin Ferguson also had 8. Everyone played and contributed to this first round playoff game.

Hargrave was outplayed most of the game. Missing half of the top players on the team, the JV team had to play a style we were not used to and the younger, faster raiders really took it to us early, easily beating us down the floor for lay-ups. Trailing by as many as 10 points in the first half, Nick Barr and Daniel McCauley hit 3-pointers in the last 20 seconds of the first half to take our first lead of the game 27-26. The lead went back and forth through the third quarter with the team taking a 2 point lead into the fourth, then Daniel took control of the offense and Matt Reynolds took control of the boards to stretch our lead to 8 points midway through the final quarter. We held the ball for long periods of the final 5 minutes and started shooting charity shots when North Cross was forced to foul. We did not miss from the line in that period, going 6/6. We also hit 6/9 shots in the fourth to bring a ray of light to a night where we missed 40 field goal attempts. Nick Barr and Daniel McCauley finished in double figures with 16 and 19 points. Matt Reynolds had a season high 9, Chase Babington 7, Brenden Courrier 4, and Tumi Demuren and Perry Britton 2 apiece. Courrier, Demuren, Britton, Marc LeBlanc, Sebastian Barrett, and Jeffery Oboite played the most minutes as a group that they have given all year. Without their key performances, the JV team would have lost by a large margin. The team finished the regular season at 13 wins and 1 loss going into the playoffs this weekend. Our first opponent will be North Cross again at Timberlake School in Lynchburg at 3:30 on Friday. As long as we win, we will play at 10 AM and 3:30 PM on Saturday. Thank you for supporting us through the season.

Hargrave played a tough game on the road against LCA. We went into the 4th quarter with the game seemingly in hand. It turned into a tight game late as the starters had to be put back into the game to seal the game. LCA scored nearly as many points in that quarter as the rest of the game combined. Hargrave continued to send LCA to the charity stripe repeatedly. Luckily enough, we scored enough to offset LCA's big quarter to win. Chase Babington, Matt Reynolds, Matt Long, and Jeff Oboite controlled the inside of the lane most of the game on defense to keep the bigger opponents in check. Chase ended with 4 points and owned the boards. Matt Long had 6 points and really gave us some much needed attitude on defense. Jeff added two points and had two key steals against fast breaks. Our guards hit key shot after key shot and drove to the hoop all game long. Collin Ferguson had 24 points, Gary Sue had 3, Nick Barr had 9, and Dan McCauley added 12. With the win, The JV team clinched its 10th in a row, the number one seed in the tournament, and the highest winning percentage I can find for many years. The regular season ends after tonights game against North Cross, our likely foe in the first round of the Tournament. Our record is 12 - 1. Every player played.

The team was without 2 starters for this game. We felt like we didn't play all that well but still came out on the winning end. Matt Reynolds played his best game of the season often beating the other team back on defense. He blocked several shots and altered many others. At one point he blocked a shot, grabbed it out of the air and started the fast break the other way. He finished with 4 points on offensive rebounds. Chase Babington, a second semester addition also had his best game with 13 points and gave the team much needed energy. Jeffery Oboite had 2 points and along with Sebastian Barrett gave the team much needed minutes in the post off the bench. Gary Sue, Nick Barr, and Collin Ferguson carried the load in the backcourt having 18, 8, and 12 points respectively. Collin played terrific defense on one of the highest scoring players in the league. Holding him to 2 baskets. Everyone played and contributed to this win

The JV Tigers reached double digits in wins and avenged their only loss of the season with a convincing win last evening. The team had the first basket of the game and never trailed. The constant man on man full court pressure was too much for the Tornadoes who repeatedly could not get the ball in bounds. Daniel McCauley was the top scorer with 23, Nick Barr had 14, Gary Sue had 7; Matt Reynolds and Chase Babington had 4; and Marc LeBlanc, Colin Ferguson, and Matt Long had 2 apiece. Every player played in the game. The team finishes league play and has its tournament next week, starting with a weather makeup game at home against RVCS on Monday at 5:30. Thanks to all our supporters. Our Record is now 10-1.
