Spring Jiu-Jitsu Evaluations

In Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu, a belt test (often called a promotion test or evaluation) is a formal assessment where students demonstrate their technical proficiency, knowledge, and character to earn stripes on their current belt or advance to a new belt rank. At Hargrave Military Academy, our recent Spring Evaluations served as this comprehensive examination for both middle school and high school cadets. During the testing, participants showcased mastery of up to 50 essential self-defense techniques required for colored belt advancement, performing them with precision under the watchful eyes of instructors. Along with sparring to showcase effectiveness against a skilled aggressor.

The evaluation went well beyond physical skills, as cadets also demonstrated fundamental techniques appropriate to their grade levels while displaying strong leadership abilities—such as clearly explaining moves, assisting fellow students, and maintaining composure under pressure. The event highlighted the depth of our program’s training and the cadets’ growth in discipline, focus, and mentorship. Successful cadets earned new stripes or belts as tangible recognition of their hard work, marking clear progress on their Jiu-Jitsu journey while reinforcing the values of perseverance and personal excellence central to Hargrave’s mission.

This structured testing process ensures that rank advancements are meaningful and earned, providing clear goals that motivate cadets to train consistently and develop both on and off the mats.
