Specialized Classes

Master’s Classes

Master’s Classes are on pause until the end of the summer.

Master’s Classes are designed for patrons over the age of 18 years old who need a qualified coach to provide them with a swimming workout and to help them with their technique. It is not a swim lesson but a workout, so patrons should have the basic understanding of at least one stroke, usually Front Crawl.

The qualified coach will work with the patron to help them reach their goals, including becoming a more proficient and efficient swimmer; competing in triathlon or swimming competitions; increasing endurance; and being socially active.

Patrons can learn things including: bilateral breathing; streamline and body positions; all strokes; open turns; flip turns; pacing; swimming jargon; and more.

Cost: $6 per class or $50 for a 10-use punch card, which does not expire. Cards can be purchased at the ODAC. Cards must be punched and signed/dated by the on-duty lifeguard.

SCUBA Classes

The ODAC works in partnership with Black Pearl SCUBA to provide the SDI/PADI Open Water Certification and multiple advanced classes, including Advanced Open Water; Rescue Diver; Nitrox; Underwater Navigation; Boat Diver; Search and Rescue; and more.

For further information contact Karen Hughes at Black Pearl SCUBA, (540) 878-5863 or [email protected].

Black Pearl SCUBA rents the pool and controls all of the pricing for all the classes.

Must be at least 10 years old to participate.

Swim Officials Classes

The ODAC is always looking for qualified swimming/diving officials to assist during our swimming/diving meets throughout the year. More information can be found at https://www.teamunify.com/team/va/page/officials/official-training

Wanda’s Workouts!

Water Aerobics

Classes are Tuesdays and Thursdays, 5:15–6:15 pm.

Water aerobics are low-impact, high-energy aquatic exercises combining walking, jogging, dance moves and calisthenics, and are a lot like aerobic classes you take on dry land (right down to the motivating and fun music). The water creates a natural resistance which means every step is more challenging and helps tone muscles with less impact on the joints. It’s an upbeat, energetic class that is sure to get you moving!

Modifications can be made to the exercises for those who require it. Just speak with our qualified instructor before class and she will incorporate those changes into the routine to ensure you are benefiting from the workout.

Ages 10-13 must be with an adult. Over 14 can participate by themselves.

Cost

First Water Aerobics Class is FREE! Then pay $6 per class or $50 for a 10-use punch card, which does not expire. Or get a monthly combo pass for swimming and unlimited water aerobics, which costs $55 for one adult or $60 for a couple.

Cards and passes can be purchased at the ODAC. Cards must be punched and signed/dated by the on-duty lifeguard.
