Varsity Rifle Team vs. Massanutten Military Academy

The Tiger Shooters fired a consistent match and gained another victory against Massanutten. The team fired its highest score thus far for the season. Haymes fired a perfect score (100) in the prone position. Lazo fired a hot match and achieved the match high score. Gladding, a first year shooter, broke the 250 barrier and joined the top four for the second time this season. All of the first year shooters fired 225 or above. The Tiger shooters fought through some challenges and defeated Randolph-Macon. This was not an easy match because of a couple of top shooters firing misses in the standing position. The shooters kept it together, maintained focus and fought through the remaining portion of the match. Lazo's steady shooting greatly assisted in the final outcome of the match. The tiger shooters kept their shots in the center and defeated Fishburne. This was the first match of the season, and all of the shooters put forth an outstanding effort. Though the Tiger riflemen did not bring home a victory, they shot well within their potential. There were two misses fired in the top 4. Caleb Haymes fired the high score for HMA.

The tiger riflemen had some difficulty keeping their shots in the center of the target during yesterday's match with FMS. Some of the shooters experienced some challenges finding their groove in the standing and kneeling position. Alex Lazo attained the team's high match score by firing a 249.

The Tiger Riflemen fired with consistency and defeated the MMA rifle team. This group of less experienced shooters stepped up and came through against a more experienced MMA rifle team.

Hargrave 982; FUMA 984. The best match yet. After a close target review of each team's top 4 shooter's, the Tiger shooters lost by 2. Top 4: Ward 254, Boyd 248, Lazo 241, Lynn 239. Other Scores: Hyden 232, Flora 204, Warner 198, Garwick 175 Great effort by all. The team has overcome the adversity of a loss to the roster and has achieved a new high score. Lynn, Ward, Lazo, Flora and Warner shot their highest scores of the year during this match. Though this match was not recorded as a victory, the entire team has stepped up to the challenge and improved their scores. Outstanding effort.

2009 Varsity Rifle Season and State Results

The 2009 HMA rifle team finished first place for the season (undefeated) and second place at the state tournament held at FUMA. This year the average score for the team was 1010 points per match. This average exceeds last year’s average by 12 points. There were also 11 individual awards presented to HMA shooters.
