USA Swimming vs. RMSC Kick-Off Invitational

Hargrave Aquatics traveled this weekend to College Park, Maryland, to swim in the 5th annual RMSC Kick-Off Invitational. The team swam extremely well lead by Andrew Hetzner. Andrew was high point scorer on the male side. He won three events at the meet: including the 200 Freestyle, which he swam in High School All-American consideration time. He also won the 100 Free and 500 Free. Andrew also placed 2nd in 4 other events.

USA Swimming vs. Age Group Championship (14&Under)

If you heard a shattering noise on Sunday in Chatham, it was the sound of a national Age Group swimming record being broken. USA Swimming’s national 13-14 Boy’s 200m Medley relay record fell during the course of the 2005 Virginia Long Course Age Group Championship held at Hargrave Military Academy’s Onishi-Davenport Aquatic Center, July 27-31, 2005.

USA Swimming vs. 2005 Summer Awards (14&Under BB/B/C)

Virginia Swimming’s 2005 Long Course Summer Awards championship meet was a great opportunity for many Hargrave Aquatics athletes to excel. Summer Awards championship is actually two meets run together with separate awards for beginner and more accomplished swimmers. The competition remained tough, while still providing award opportunities for many athletes. Summer Awards ran July 15-16, 2005 at the Freedom Center in Manassas, Virginia.

USA Swimming vs. Senior Championship (15&Older)

The Hargrave Aquatics swimming team competed this weekend at the 2005 VSI Long Course Senior State Championship. The men’s team was lead by Andrew Hetzner, who finished fourth overall in the high point ranking. This is quite accomplishment. The overall high point winner is a current member of the US national team. The second place finisher is a NCAA All-American swimmer from Auburn University. They were followed by Patrick Zeltman and than Andrew Hetzner, respectively.

USA Swimming vs. THE Ultimate Challenge A/BB/B/C Meet

The 2005 BASA Ultimate Challenge offered great competition for many Hargrave Aquatics athletes during the three-day event. Held June 24-26, 2005, the Challenge also featured a big luau on June 25. In addition to fast swimming, this was a big hit among many of the participants.

USA Swimming vs. Sharks’ A/BB/B/C Meet

The Hargrave Aquatics traveled to Shelby, North Carolina, on June 10-12, 2005 for the Shark’s Aquatics Club 2005 Invitational. Fifteen teams participated in the Invitational, with Hargrave Aquatics being the sole Virginia entry. In addition to the obvious large number of North Carolina teams, other out of state teams herald from Georgia and South Carolina. All teams competed in the ‘long’ or 50m course.

Varsity Basketball vs. VIC Tournament

The Tigers opened up the VIC conference tournament with a road game at Fishburne Military School. Hargrave came out of the locker room with energy, but struggled to convert baskets in the first half. This allowed Fishburne to take a 25-15 lead into the locker room at intermission.

Varsity Basketball vs. Eastern Menonite HS

May 26, 2011

The Tigers held their last regular season home game against Eastern Mennonite High School. Emotions were high, as eight seniors were recognized before the game began. Hargrave got off to a slow start defensively, allowing EMHS to jump to a 17-16 lead at halftime. The game settled into a rhythm for the next two quarters, as both teams traded the lead, culminating with a three point deficit for the Tigers at the end of the third period. This deficit was quickly overcome, as Hargrave opened the fourth quarter with back to back three point makes, to take the lead for good, finishing 58-46.

Varsity Basketball vs. Carlisle School

Hargrave was on the road during conference play to face the Chiefs of Carlisle. In a tough shooting night, the Tigers fell 39-46. The Tigers were led by Ben Amos with 11 points and Avery Johnson with 7 points and 9 rebounds.

Varsity Basketball vs. Virginia Episcopal School

The Tigers returned to conference action to host the Bishops of VES. Hargrave jumped out to an early 5 point lead behind tough 1st quarter defense. The Bishops stormed back to tie the game at intermission. The see-saw battle continued, as the Tigers built a 6 point lead in the third only to see it slip away, ending the game tied at 44. Overtime was dominated by Hargrave, as VES was held scoreless in the extra period.

Varsity Basketball vs. Covenant School

May 26, 2011

The Tigers dropped their final regular season game of the year to the Eagles of Covenant. The Eagles, regular season conference champions, jumped out to an early lead, going into half time with a 42-28 lead. Hargrave came out in the second half and continued to battle, but the lead was too large to overcome and the Tigers fell 80-69.

Varsity Basketball vs. Fork Union Military Academy

May 26, 2011

Hargrave stepped out of conference play to host the Blue Devils of Fork Union Military Academy. The Tigers played terrific first half defense, but struggled to score in the second quarter, trailing 21-13 at halftime. A furious second half comeback was derailed by poor foul shooting, as the Tigers dropped 48-55.

Varsity Basketball vs. Fishburne Military School

May 26, 2011

The Tigers took to the road to take on conference foe Fishburne Military School in a tight game. The Tigers fell behind by five at halftime, but fought back to tie the game in the fourth quarter. This charge was led by critical outside shooting and tough defense. FMS took a two point lead on free throws with 30 seconds left in the game. In the final seconds, the Tigers had three shots to tie, but could not convert, falling 52-54.

Varsity Basketball vs. Liberty Christian Academy

The Tigers faced a tough LCA team on the road and fell 38-61. The Bulldogs jumped on top early with deadly accurate three point shooting and never looked back. Hargrave was not able regain its footing until the fourth quarter. The Tigers were led by Ben Amos with 9 points and Mark Barber with 9 points.

USA Swimming vs. CYAC Spring Splash

Hargrave Aquatics concluded its 2004/2005 short course (25 yard length) season with several exciting performances at the CYAC Spring Splash, April 2, 2005. The swimming meet, hosted at Charlottesville’s Crow Pool, was a non-championship meet designed to bridge the gap between short course and long course (50 meter length) seasons.

Varsity Basketball vs. North Cross School

Hargrave hosted the Raiders of North Cross, falling 71-74. In a back and forth contest, the Tigers could never take command of the game. The Tigers were led by Andrew Owusu with 18 points. Also contributing were Danny Smith with 14 points and 7 assists, Ben Amos with 12 points, Ego Ferguson with 11 points and 9 rebounds, and Avery Johnson with 10 points and 8 rebounds.

Varsity Basketball vs. Chatham High School

The Tigers suffered a defeat at the hands of the Chatham High Cavaliers, falling 56-67. The game was characterized by sloppy ball handling and porous shooting by Hargrave. This play allowed the Cavaliers to jump out to an early lead and prevented the Tigers from coming back.

USA Swimming vs. Virginia Swimming’s 2005 Short Course Age Group Championship

Hargrave Aquatics claimed four very difficult first place finishes a the Virgnia Swimming’s 2005 Short Course Age Group Championships, held this past weekend March 17-20, 2005. 37 club teams and 716 athletes from across the state participated in the event. The meet was held at Radford University’s Dedmon Center.

Varsity Basketball vs. Carlisle School

May 26, 2011

The Tigers continued their win streak with a 60-45 victory over the Chiefs of Carlisle School. The Tigers came out with energy in the first quarter and jumped to a 17-5 lead. This lead was extended by one as the game went to intermission, 27-14. The third quarter saw Hargrave stretch the lead to 24 before finishing the period up 44-25. The Chiefs mounted a final unsuccessful rally before falling by 15.

Varsity Basketball vs. Tunstall HS

May 26, 2011

The Tigers hosted a return match up against the Trojans of Tunstall High School to close out competition before Christmas Break. In a one-sided affair, the Tigers jumped out early and never looked back winning 55-37. Pressure defense was the key as Hargrave took a nine point first quarter lead, 13 point half time lead, and twenty point third quarter lead. All 11 players played for the Tigers.
