Varsity Baseball Victorious Over Roanoke Catholic
March 26, 2012
The Varsity Baseball Team was able to bounce back from Monday’s defeat E.C. Glass to defeat the Celtics of Roanoke Catholic by a score of 11-1 in 5 innings. A solid pitching effort from the trio of Bousman, Houck, and Mishue were the key to the game. The trio combined for 11 strikeouts, while walking 3, and surrendering 1 hit over the 5 innings. Leading the way for the Tigers at the plate was Shane Bousman (2 for 3, 2 RBI’s), Vaughan Nunn (2 for 3, 2 RBI’s) and Ryne Sigmon (2 for 3, RBI).
Hilltoppers Topple Tigers

The Varsity Baseball team took a hard opening season loss on Monday by a score of 13-3 to the Hilltoppers of E.C. Glass. The game started off great for the Tigers, as they were able to maintain the lead for the first 3 innings. However, it was from that point that the “error bug” hit. The Tigers ended up committing 7 fielding errors, which allowed the Hilltoppers to get back into and eventually win the game.

The Varsity Basketball team lost in a tremendous state tournament game in overtime to Atlantic Shores Christian. The team finished 17-7 on the season and ranked number #9 in the state.

The Prep national Wrestling Tournament was held in Bethlehem, Pennsylvania at Lehigh University, February 23-15, 2012. Cawthon and Chase qualified for the tournament by placing in the Top 4 at the State Tournament. Both athletes did an outstanding job this weekend and throughout the year.

Varsity Basketball Closes Regular Season With Win

The Tigers finished the conference season at Holy Cross on Thursday night. In a one-sided affair that saw the Tigers on top, 77-40, 12 different players scored. Tim Buchikos led the way with 17 points. Josh Farmer added 13, Lyndon Massenburg 11, and Malachi Paige 10. The win puts Hargrave at 15-5 (10-2) on the season and ranked #7 in the state.

On Tuesday, Hargrave fell to the Bulldogs of Liberty Christian Academy in overtime, 55-52.

Hargrave has a new State Champion! Cadet Nigel Cawthon went a perfect 4-0 with four pins to win the heavy weight State title. All of the wrestlers performed well and the team finished in 10th place overall out of a 33 team field.
