Varsity Basketball vs. Carlisle

Hargrave Military Academy hosted Carlisle on Tuesday night in a hard fought conference battle. Behind strong defense and the hot hand of Karson Mott, the Tigers took a nine point lead into half-time. Mott scored 18 of his 27 points before the break. After intermission, the Chiefs caught fire, hitting 7 of 11 threes in the second half. Using this sharp shooting, Carlisle took the lead during the third quarter and never relinquished it for the rest of the game. The Tigers came with in four in the fourth quarter, but Carlisle iced the game with 6 of 8 free throws down the stretch. Nick Barr contributed 8 points and 14 assists for the Tigers and Grant Chandler kicked in 11 in the losing effort.

Varsity Basketball vs. Roanoke Catholic

Hargrave Military Academy traveled to Roanoke on Friday night to take on the Celtics of Roanoke Catholic. In a conference match up, the Celtics came out hot, scoring 27 first quarter point on the way to a 52-17 half-time lead. The Tigers could not get going offensively but came out in the second half and put forth a great effort. The Tigers were lead by Nick Barr with 27 points and 5 assists. All eleven players saw action for Hargrave.

Varsity Basketball vs. LCA

The Tigers dropped a conference road game to the Bulldogs of Liberty Christian Academy, 41-52. Hargrave came out of the gate playing tough defense, using this effort to grab a second quarter lead for a time. The Bulldogs clawed back into the game a tied the score before half-time.

Varsity Basketball vs. Chatham High

May 26, 2011

The Tigers opened 2007 with a road loss at Chatham High School. Chatham jumped out early to a big lead; connecting on 5 first quarter three point attempts to build a 21-11 first quarter score. The Tigers fought back cutting the deficit to three before the Cavaliers hit a buzzer-beating three pointer right before half time. Chatham continued its timely shooting from distance in the second half, ending the game 10-18 from behind the arc. Hargrave was unable to mount a comeback despite outstanding efforts from Nick Barr (16 pts, 10 asts), Karson Mott (15pts, 12 rebs, 4 stls), and Josh Rudolph (15 pts, 7 rebs). Several bench player gave strong performances, lead by Mike Lee and Grant Chandler (9 pts).

Varsity Basketball vs. Dan River

Hargrave Military Academy suffered a tough loss on Tuesday night, falling to Dan River High School 64-68 in overtime. The Tigers began strong defensively, holding the Wildcats to 10 first quarter points while building a nine point lead. In an up and down second quarter, the Wildcats were able to trim the lead to six before intermission.

Varsity Basketball vs. Miller

Hargrave traveled to Charlottesville to take on the defending VIC Champion Miller School. Miller began the game 11-15 from the field, jumping to a first quarter lead of 27-10. A defensive second quarter put the score at 35-14 at half.

Varsity Basketball vs. Holy Cross

The Tigers dropped their opening conference game with a 55-58 lost on the road at Holy Cross. The game started poorly for Hargrave, as they fell behind 20-5 under a barrage of three point shots from the Gaels in the first quarter. After stepping up the defensive intensity, the Tigers clawed back into the game with an 11-0 run. This effort included limiting the Gaels to 6 second quarter points and trimmed the lead to 26-22 at half-time.

Varsity Basketball vs. Blue Ridge

Playing on back-to-back nights, the Hargrave Tigers traveled to the Blue Ridge School on Friday night. A very good Blue Ridge team limited the Tigers to 18 % shooting from the field and came away with a 72-39 win. The Tigers were lead by seniors Karson Mott (14 pts, 7 rebs) and Nick Barr (10 pts, 4 asts, 3 stls).

Varsity Basketball vs. Fork Union

The Tigers opened their home season with a loss to Fork Union Military Academy, 77-50. Hot three point shooting by FUMA put the Tigers in an early hole and it proved to be too much to come back from.

The Tigers played on back to back nights and were edged out, 55-57, by the Dan River Wildcats on Friday. Capitalizing on 4 of 26 shooting by the Tigers, the Wildcats jumped out to a 30-15 lead at halftime.

The Hargrave Tigers opened the season with a road victory over the Westover Christian Bulldogs. The Tigers never trailed in the game after seizing an early 7-2 lead. A solid team defensive effort limited the Bulldogs to 16 first-half points.

The Tigers suffered a tough loss to the Bulldogs of Liberty Christian School (#3 ranked Div. II) 70-48. Leading the way for the Tigers were junior Andrew Pughsley (19 pts., 5 rebs., and 3 steals) and freshman Victor Ibeh (15 pts., 9 rebs., and 2 steals). Junior Nick Barr (8 pts., 2 rebs., 2 steals and 3 assist) and junior Jeffery Oboite (5 pts., 5 rebs., and 2 blocks) also had solid games on both ends of the floor. With the loss Hargrave's record falls to 8-12 overall and 5-10 VIC. The Tigers return to action on Friday, Feburary 17th, when they will host Roanoke Catholic (#1 ranked Div. II). Tip-off is scheduled for 5:30 PM.

In a hard fought game, the Tigers were able to pull away late and defeat a scrappy Roanoke Valley Christian team 72-57. Leading the way for the Tigers was freshman Victor Ibeh (20 pts., 7 rebs., and 2 steals), Karson Mott (18 pts., 8 rebs., and 3 steals), and Andrew Pughsley (14 pts., 4 rebs., 4 steals, and 2 assist). Junior Nick Barr (9 pts., 6 rebs., 2 steals) and Andrew McDonald (10 pts., 6 rebs., and 2 blocks) also had solid games on both ends of the court. With the win the Tigers record now improves to 7-11 overall and 5-9 VIC. The Tigers return to action on Tuesday, February 14th, when they will travel to Lynchburg to take on the Bulldogs of Liberty Christian Academy. Tip-off is scheduled for 7:00 PM.

Leading the way for Hargrave was freshman Victor Ibeh (14 pts., 7 rebs., and 2 steals), Andrew Pughsley (12 pts., 9 rebs., and 2 steals), Karson Mott (11 pts., 4 rebs., and 2 steals). Junior Nick Barr (10 pts., 3 rebs., and 3 assist) also had a great game by chipping in some big shots to help keep the game close. With the loss the Tigers record falls to 6-11 overall and 4-9 VIC. Hargrave returns to action on Friday, February 10th, when the Tigers will travel to Roanoke to take on Roanoke Valley Christian. Tip-off is scheduled for 4:30 PM.

The Tigers got a much needed victory on Tuesday night by defeating the Falcons of Roanoke Valley Christian 78-59. Leading the way for the Tigers were Victor Ibeh (20 pts., 10 rebs., 3 assist), Andrew Pughsley (12 pts., 5 rebs., and 3 steals) Mark Manning (11 pts., 2 rebs., and 3 steals), and Karson Mott (10 pts., 4 rebs, and 5 steals). Chris Smoot (8 pts., 3 rebs., 3 assist, and 2 steals) also had a solid night on both ends of the floor. With the win Hargrave's record improves to 6-10 overall and 4-8 VIC. Hargrave returns to action on Thursday, February 9th, when the Tigers will host the Chiefs of Carlisle. Tip-off is scheduled for 5:30 PM.

The Tigers suffered another hard fought loss on Saturday, when they were defeated by the 9th ranked Saints of St. Christophers 77-64. Leading the way for the Tigers were Andrew Pughsley (29 pts., 5 rebs., and 3 steals) and Victor Ibeh (11 pts., 7 rebs., and 2 steals). Mark Manning (5 pts., 2 rebs., and 5 assist) and Nick Barr (5 pts., 4 rebs., 2 assist, and 2 steals), Jeffrey Oboite (2 pts., and 6 rebs.) and Andrew McDonald (2 pts., 7 rebs., and 2 blocks) also contribute with solid all around performances. With the loss the Tigers fall to 5-10 overall and 3-7 VIC. Hargrave returns to action on Tuesday, February 7th, when they will host Roanoke Valley Christian. Tip-off is scheduled for 5:30 PM.

The Tigers were defeated by the Tornados of Timberlake Christian School 73-55. Leading the way for the Tigers were Jeffrey Oboite (11 pts., 8 rebs., and 2 blks.), Chris Smoot (11 pts., 2 rebs., and 3 assist) and Nick Barr (8 pts., 3 rebs., and 2 steals). Bryan Sigmon (5 pts., and 5 rebs.) also had a solid performance coming off the bench. With the loss the Tigers fall to 5-10 overall and 3-8 VIC. Varsity Basketball vs. Holy Cross School

The Tigers suffered another tough loss to Gaels of Holy Cross. Hargrave led for much of the first half, but a late second quarter push by Holy Cross sent the Tigers to the locker room trailing by a point. The second half started out much like the first, with both teams swapping baskets. However, some costly turnovers and cold shooting led to the Gaels taking the lead for the remainder of the game. Overall it was a very good effort against one of the best teams in the VIC. Leading the way for the Tigers were Victor Ibeh (12 pts., 8 rebs., and 2 steals), Nick Barr (12 pts., 2 steals, and 2 assist), Andrew Pughsley (11 pts., 4 rebs., and 2 steals), and Mark Manning (10 pts., 3 steals, and 4 assist). Chris Smoot (7pts., 2 rebs., and 2 assist) and Jeffrey Oboite (6 pts., 7 rebs., and 2 steals) also had solid games coming off the bench. With the loss the Tigers drop to 5-9 overall and 3-7 VIC. Varsity Basketball vs. North Cross School

The Tigers suffered a heart breaking loss Friday at North Cross by a score of 77-76. It was a great effort by our team in a tough enviroment. Neither team was able to pull away in the second half, with the lead changing hands each trip down the court. However, in the end the Tigers came up short when Nick Barr's twelve footer fell short with only two seconds left in regulation. Leading the way for the Tigers was Andrew Pughsley (26 pts., 4 rebs., 3 steals, and 3 assist) and Victor Ibeh (23 pts., 9 rebs., and 2 steals). Starters Nick Barr (10 pts., 2 steals, and 4 assist) and Andrew McDonald (4 pts., 11 rebs., 2 assist, and 4 blocks) also contributed with solid games. Chris Smoot (4 pts., 2 steals, and 4 assist) and Karson Mott (5 pts., 4 rebs., 3 assist, and 3 steals) chipped in with solid performances coming off the bench in support. With the loss Hargrave falls to 5-8 overall and 4-6 VIC. Hargave returns to action on Tuesday, January 31, when the Tigers travel to Holy Cross. TIp-off is scheduled for 6:30 PM.
