JV Soccer vs. Lynchburg Christian Academy

May 26, 2011

The Hargrave Tigers opened their 2005 season by tying at 1 goal with Lynchburg Christian Academy. LCA scored early in the first half and tested our defense on repeated occasions, but the determination of our defensive team led by James Shelton (G) and supported by Andrew Urschel, Gabe and Jesse Gandara prevailed. As the game progressed, our offensive team created more plays and gained more space until a magnificent shot by Reeves Hollar found the net at LCA’s goal in the middle of the first half. We had several opportunities later in the game, but were unable to capitalize on them. Garret Jennings, Heath Light, and Alex Moore had a commendable performance.

The Tigers suffered their third defeat in the season and their second to Virginia Episcopal School with a score of 0-2. However, on this opportunity Hargrave played at the same level as its rival. Our defense was solid and allowed few opportunities for goals. J. Shelton had seven saves in the game and VES really worked hard to get the two goals. We had a very good game defensively, but were unable to capitalize on the opportunities that we had. All players worked hard and made their best in keeping the game leveled against a bigger opponent.

The Tigers evened the odds against Holy Cross by defeating them on Wednesday. Holy Cross scored twice; their first goal came early in the game and the second one near the end of the same period. Hargrave responded late in the first half with a goal by Chris Stoken with the assist of Tim Weir. Halftime arrived with an adverse score to the Tigers of 1-2. Our players returned to the field playing more aggressively and making a display of passes and team work, creating more opportunities in the field.
