Varsity Swimming/Diving vs. Eastern Interscholastic Championships

The Hargrave men finished an exciting 22nd in the nation’s oldest swimming meet, the Eastern Prep School Championship. This year the meet completed the 109th running of this competition.

Varsity Swimming/Diving vs. VSIS Championship

The Hargrave men's swimming team performed very well this weekend at the VSIS State Championship. Top Eight performances were turned in by James Eu in the 500 Free, finishing 7th and moving up eight spots from the previous year. Last year he went 5:23 at Paul VI. This year James went 5:09 and finished 7th overall. He had Hargrave’s highest finish in the meet.

Varsity Swimming/Diving vs. VIC/BRC Championship

The Hargrave men's swimming team has not brought home the VIC title in many years. The meet did not start off very well for Hargrave. Our first relay was disqualified. Also, a member of the relay team was sick and not performing at his best during a second event.

The Hargrave men wrapped up a successful 10-1 season today scoring a victory over Fishburn Military Academy. The score was 110-44.

Varsity Swimming/Diving vs. Roanoke Catholic HS

After suffering its first loss of the year to Woodberry Forest, Hargrave bounced back today to defeat Roanoke Catholic 90-35. The men won all 11 events in the meet. They preformed well as they make their big push towards VIC Conference championship and then the VSIS State Championship.

Varsity Swimming/Diving vs. Woodberry Forest School

The Hargrave Varsity Swimming team took on Woodberry Forest today at a swimming meet. In the ten year existence of the Hargrave varsity program, the team has never beaten Woodberry Forest, and in fact have never swam them to a close meet. Last year, Woodberry beat Hargrave by 60 points. This year the team looked to make a statement about where the program has come. However, the men came up short loosing to Woodberry 90-95.

Varsity Swimming/Diving vs. Heritage HS

The Hargrave men swim team went to 8-0 recording a victory over Heritage High School on Thursday night. The team swam very well and won every event in the meet. First place victories were record by Josh Carden in the 50 free, 100 fly, 200 Free Relay, and 400 Free Relay. Brian Holifield record his first, first place finish of the year in the 200 Medley Relay. Also on that team were Jarred Wood, Andrew Phelps and James Eu. James also won the 200 IM and 500 free as well as being a part of the winning 400 free Relay. Jarred Woods was also a part of the winning 200 Free Relay. Andrew Phelps won his first individual event of the year wining the 100 Backstroke. Mike Wheeler and Jonathan Waltz also score first place victories for Hargrave on route to their 110-46 win over Heritage. The men face their biggest challenge of the year next as they prepare to face Woodberry Forest who beat the men last year 115-55

Varsity Swimming/Diving vs. Fork Union/VES

The Hargrave moved to 6-0 as it beat back rival Fork Union 112-56. The men came out of the gate fast by winning the opening relay and never looked back as the won an impressive 11 events in the 11-event contest. The men also scored many second and third place victories on their way to this dominating Fork Union. The men look to keep their record perfect as they face Virginia Episcopal in their meet before the Holiday break.

Varsity Swimming/Diving vs. George Washington HS

Hargrave Tigers notched its second victory of the year over George Washington, beating them 104-63. The swim team swam very well in a very impressive victory over George Washington. The team moves to a record of 5-0, as it prepares to take on military revival Fork Union and Virginia Episcopal on Tuesday Dec 14th.

Third meet of the year, against Norfolk Academy, was a tough fought meet that saw the Hargrave Tigers on top 100-82. Hargrave missed a lot of its depth despite winning all the swimming events, but had to hang on to some late second and third place finishes to win the meet against powerhouse Norfolk Academy.

Varsity Swimming/Diving vs. George Washington HS/Franklin Co. HS

Hargrave men's swimming team continued the season with a second impressive victory over AAA high school George Washington on Wednesday. Hargrave won 10 out of 11 events on the way to a 65-29 victory. First place finishes were recorded by Josh Carden, James Eu, Jon Waltz, Mike Wheeler, as well as first place fininish out of all relay teams. Other cadets scoring points for the Tigers included: Joseph Campbell, Jordan Koenig, Dustin Matthews, Andrew Phelps, David Rand, James Stacking, Brian Holifield, and Jarred Wood. Way to go Tigers, keep up the good work.

JV Basketball vs. Lynchburg Christian Academy

The JV Tigers finished their regular season with a lackluster performance against the Bulldogs of LCA. The game was close, LCA maintained a two point lead at the end the third quarter, but the Tigers struggled to score in the fourth quarter as the Bulldogs pulled away. Grant Chandler led the Tigers with 20 points and Darius Butler added 16.

JV Basketball vs. Roanoke Valley Christian School

The JV Tigers traveled to Roanoke Valley Christian on Friday night, notching another conference win. In a solid defensive effort, the Tigers limited RVCS to 10 points in each quarter. All 12 Tigers saw action and 8 different Tigers scored. Leading the way was Grant Chandler with 24, followed by Darius Butler with 10.

JV Basketball vs. Carlisle

The JV Tigers finished their home season with a win over the Chiefs of Carlisle. In a hard-fought game, the Tigers held the lead from mid-way through the first quarter to the final buzzer. After going into the locker room with an eight point lead, the Tigers struggled in the third quarter, allowing the Chiefs to close to within two, 43-41. The Chiefs kept coming in the fourth quarter, but the Tigers had enough to hold them off. Active defense by Darius Butler, Jarrod Patterson, and Michael Angelo Lee help stem the tide. The Tigers had their most balanced offensive night of the season: Grant Chandler (18 points), Butler (16 points), Patterson (12 points), Lee (10 points, 12 rebounds), and Tim Emery (6 points).

JV Basketball vs. Roanoke Valley Christian School

The JV Tigers continued conference play last night with a win over Roanoke Valley Christian. The Tigers played a lackluster first half, sharing the lead at intermission, 20-20. Coming out of the locker room, the Tigers picked up the defensive intensity, outscoring the opponent 18-2 in the third quarter. In a balanced attack, nine different players scored enroute to the 55-29 win. All scorers were led by Darius Butler with 16 points, followed by Grant Chandler with 15. Michael Angelo Lee also contributed with 8 points and 12 rebounds while setting the defensive tone for the Tigers.

JV Basketball vs. Roanoke Catholic

The JV Tigers logged a hard fought victory over the Celtics of Roanoke Catholic. In a defensive battle, the Tigers came out strong, leading 15-13 after the first quarter. The Celtics continued to play hard but went to the locker room down by six. The Tigers came out after halftime and committed a series of turnovers, this led to the game being tied, 38-38, at the end of the third quarter. The game came down to free throws being made to seal the win for the Tigers. Grant Chandler led all scorers with 29 points. Jarrod Patterson chipped in with 11 points and tenacious defense, while Tim Emery stepped forward with 10 points and 9 rebounds.
