Varsity Soccer vs. Westover Christian

Brad Jones scored first in the game against Westover with a header into the back of the net from Greg Zimmerman's corner kick. Ian Beliczky scored twice, the second time off of Oscar Nelson's pass. DeMario Williams and Chad Thomas rounded out the goals for Hargrave in the second half of the game. Alnor Rodriguez had 5 saves to earn the shutout.

The Tigers played a good game against Christian Heritage. Scoring in the first half were Chad Thomas, William Franchella, and Austin Wilson. Scoring in the second half of the game were Ian Belizcky, DeMario Williams, Nate Woollens, and Brad Jones. Alnor Rodriguez had 5 saves on the game.

The Tigers started off strong when Austin Wilson scored on a penalty kick to give us the lead through halftime. William Franchella, assisted by Oscar Nelson, scored in the 60th minute of action to give us a 2-0 lead. Unfortunately Holy Cross was able to come back and tie it up late in the game. Ian Beliczky had 5 saves on the game and Alnor Rodriguez had 2. The talented defensive action by Greg Zimmerman, Austin Wilson, Trent Erving, Page Mizell, and DeMario Williams allowed them only 7 shots on goal.

Nate Woollens scored in the first 2 minutes of play to give the Tigers the lead and Ian Beliczky scored a hat-trick in the last 10 minutes of action give the Tigers the win. Hargrave's final goal came in the 73rd minute of play by Peter Morcombe. DeMario Williams and Kayode Ogunnaike both had assists in the game and keeper Alnor Rodriguez had 8 save in the game.

Kayode Ogunnaike scored his first goal of the season as well as the first goal of the game against Holy Cross. The lead that we had was short-lived as Holy Cross scored on a penalty kick that keeper Alnor Rodriguez actually blocked initially but was unable to retain. Holy Cross scored again in the 40th minute of action to send us down by one into halftime. A motivated Tiger team took to the field in the second half but was unable to finish any shots on goal. Ian Belizcky, Austin Wilson, Peter Morcombe, and Greg Zimmerman launched a barrage of attacks from deep in our defense but were unable to capitalize on them in the end. Alnor Rodriguez had 11 saves on the game and the Tigers had 10 shots on goal.

Ian Beliczky came through once again with a hat-trick to beat Carlisle 3-2. Hargrave scored first in the 16th minute of play. Carlisle scored late in the half to tie it up. In the second half, Ian Beliczky scored off the assists of Oscar Nelson and Kayode Ogunnaike. His third goal came in the 58th minute of play off a bicycle kick from DeMario Williams. Alnor Rodriguez had 4 saves on the game. The combined effort of Austin Wilson, DeMario Williams, Trent Erving, and Greg Zimmerman kept Carlisle's offense at bay.

The Tigers jumped to a 3-0 lead in the first half due to the hat-trick that Ian Belizcky provided for the team. Austin Wilson had an assist on his second goal. In the second half, a fired up Timberlake was able to score a couple of times and was given a penalty kick late in the game. Hargrave's keeper, Alnor Rodriguez, made the save on the PK to hand us our second win of the season.

The Tigers out-hustled Roanoke Valley to end the first half of the game 2-1. However, they were able to come back late in the second half and tie it up. William Franchella scored the first goal of the game for Hargrave and Ian Beliczy scored twice. Alnor Rodriguez had 20 saves on the game. Austin Wilson (2 saves), Greg Zimmerman, DeMario Williams and Page Mizelle played outstanding defense.

Hargrave opened its season with a win againt Westover Christian by a score of 6-0. Oscar Nelson scored in the 13th minute of action followed by William Franchella, Ian Belizcky, and Chad Thomas. The half ended 4-0. In the second half of the game, William Franchella and Chad Thomas both contributed goals to close out the game. Alnor Rodriguez had 6 saves on the game to earn him the shutout victory. Defensive action by Austin Wilson, Page Mizell, DeMario Williams and Greg Zimmerman was critical in ensuring the shutout. Peter Morcombe, William Franchella, and Greg Zimmerman were all credited with assists.

The Hargrave Swimming Tigers hosted the Virginia Episcopal Bishops in a varsity swim meet. Hargrave placed first in nine out of 11 events, winning the overall meet with a score of 666 to 324.

After rescheduling due to weather concerns, the Hargrave Tigers went to Roanoke on the evening of Friday, 9 February and won the Virginia Independant Conference (VIC) swimming championships for the 3rd consecutive year by a wide margin. There were some outstanding swims with personal bests by Drew Bennett, swimming the 100 Free in 52.92; Rohan Johnson, swimming the 100 Free in a very exciting race with a time of 49.84; Pat Martelli, swimming the 200 IM in 2:04.38, and Steven Gasparis, who set a new VIC record in the 200 Free with a time of 1:47.34! Our boy's 200 Free Relay team of Pat Martelli, Ryan Inwood, Steven Gasparis and Rohan Johnson also set a new conference record when they won with a time of 1:31.99! Way to go Tigers!
