Varsity Soccer vs. North Cross School

May 27, 2011

Hargrave 0 – North Cross 1In a tough VIC match-up with North Cross, the Tigers played a great game and kept the pressure on, but could not find the back of the net with a score. The Tigers controlled the game for 75% of the time and out shot the conference foe, 18 to 4.The Tigers played to a 0-0 halftime score and played with confidence and composure. In the second half, the North Cross team was able to make good on one of their corner kicks and get the ball in the middle of the goal area where one of the boys was able to get a foot on the ball, putting it in the net for the only goal of the game. The Tigers were relentless with their pressure most of the game, but especially during the last 15 minutes of the game. Numerous times the well struck shots by the Tigers would hit the goal posts or would deflect off a defender and go wide. The Tigers now prepare for a tough week with 4 games in 5 days with the final two season games coming up for Parents Weekend. The Tigers play Fishburne on Thursday afternoon at home at 4 PM. They will travel the short distance to Carlisle in Martinsville on Friday for an 8 PM match under the lights. Then after the Parents Weekend Parade on Sat. morning, the Tigers will take to the soccer pitch for a 1 PM match up with Eastern Mennonite HS before most of the boys head home for the weekend. It will be a challenging week for the Tiger team. Please offer your support and encouragement to the team throughout the week.

Varsity Soccer vs. Liberty Christian Academy

May 27, 2011

Hargrave 0 - Liberty 5The 2008 Varsity Soccer team is a talented group of mostlyseniors and juniors and a couple sophomores. This yearssquad has a distinct international flavor with eight or nineplayers from outside the continental US. The fall season got off to a sluggish start with most of theplayers having never played together for Hargrave. Theydropped their first contest to a strongly talented team fromLynchburg who had all their players back from last year.Bradley Faught had a great game in goal with numerous saves on some tough shots. The defense worked hardunder the good efforts from Michael Schantz, Zach Foster,Alex Pritchard, and Nathan Amick, even thought they were pressured heavily the entire game. The midfielders alsoshowed great effort under the leadership of Tian Yang, Cameron Giannini and Ben Luther. The team was outshot 22 to 8 which resulted in the finalscore of 5 to 0 in favor of the visiting team. The forwardsworked hard to possess the ball and get off some shotsagainst the strong LCA defense. Mohamed Abouzied, YassinAsfour and Daniel Nolen did manage to get a couple shots each.
